All Blacks vs Tonga 92 to 7.   That must be some kind of record, and probably in the scheme of things not a very beneficial RWC warm up for NZ, except wind sprints up and down the field!

Not beneficial in the slightest to either team. Just don't see any point in these matches - NZ could have put out the Under 19's.......

As for records, NZ went a little further in the 1995 RWC where the All Blacks beat Japan 145-17 in South Africa on 4 June.

If you're looking at club rugby, then it was a pretty bizarre match ending 356-3.....

A Belgian rugby team playing in the country's top division has won a game 356-3.

"The match saw Royal Kituro run in 56 tries and 38 conversions to Soignies' lone drop-goal - which equates to more than four points a minute on average.
The problems began for Soignies in the run-up to the game when the referee failed to turn up on time.
The away team's coach and most of the players then left, assuming the game was off.
However the referee did eventually appear, more than an hour after the scheduled kick-off, and the game went ahead.
The 16 Soignies players still available seemingly did not compete in protest.
Soignies president Guy Calomme described the result as "catastrophic", while a Kituro spokeswoman said Soignies "didn't really play"."

Seems to be a bit of a "Good News/Bad News Article"........

Excerpts taken from https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/ ... -cup-japan

The Good: -

"Of course, the tournament organisers would point to the statistics to prove everything is fine with 1.6m of the 1.8m tickets sold and a record 38,000 applying for the initial 10,000 places on the volunteer programme for the tournament, forcing an extra 3,000 to be taken on to what has been dubbed “Team No-Side.”"

"The economic benefit to Japan is also without question, with recent estimates saying the economy will benefit by around ¥216.6bn (£1.5bn)."

"Wales (OK - "slight bias!), meanwhile, have been running an engagement programme in Kitakyushu, the host for their pre-tournament camp, for a year with refereeing and coaching courses that have extended to other cities. Pictures of the team have been appearing on local buses while there are even Welsh flags on mail vans and fire engines."

"“The welcome the teams have received so far across the country has been phenomenal. They are telling us that they have never seen anything like it. From the host cities, volunteers and public, everyone is keen and showing their full support, which is fantastic,” said Beaumont."

The Bad

"For some, with less than a week remaining until the showpiece begins in Japan, much still needs to be done for the first tournament to be held in Asia to have a long-lasting effect.
The journey to the start of the tournament has been tumultuous and one that at times has been overshadowed by next year’s Olympics in Tokyo. Weeks before kick-off, even in Tokyo, it seemed that there were still many who did not fully comprehend what is about to hit Japan. “Really disappointed – I’m teaching in a junior high school in central Tokyo,” one school teacher said. “Literally two or three students out of 200 had the slightest interest or knowledge about rugby or the World Cup.
“No posters, nothing. There should be publicity and visits to elementary and high schools. The Olympics has been mentioned every day for ages and will not be until next year. The momentum after 2015 has just vanished. It baffles and infuriates me.”"

"But still questions have been raised, particularly away from the 12 host cities. Cities and municipalities hosting the more than 50 training venues have criticised the rules that prohibit them publicising practice locations and schedules for security reasons. The massive crowds that have witnessed teams such as South Africa and Australia at their pre-tournament camps would seem to suggest that a compromise has been reached."

Was Japan being awarded the Rugby World Cup and Olympics in consecutive years a mistake? Will this tournament really promote rugby to the levels that it should in Asia long term? IMHO this is a massive opportunity for rugby in general to grow (further) in the region - and is much needed with regards to it's seemingly fall in popularity (and off field issues) in Australia......

Personally, I truly would hate this to be a wasted opportunity and just a "quick buck" for the organisers and "money men".....

Anywho, let's be optimistic - a hugely successful tournament, bringing growth to the game in Asia and the world as a whole........ with of course Wales as 2019 Champions!! :duck:

Rugby World Cup: How Wales created a home-away-from-home in Japan

Photos & video at link: https://edition.cnn.com/2019/09/16/spor ... index.html

(CNN)You could be forgiven for thinking that you were in the center of Cardiff on an international match day due to the number of buildings proudly decorated with Welsh flags and buses emblazoned with the faces of Alun Wyn Jones and Leigh Halfpenny.

Roads lined with fans and a stadium full of cheering on watchers also greeted the Welsh rugby team in the Japanese city of Kitakyushu when they arrived on Saturday.

The Japanese city is Wales' base for their pre-Rugby World Cup camp, and the locals have certainly committed to adopting the Welsh as their second team......

How stupid can you be for the sake of putting on a bet?
Wales backs coach Rob Howley has been sent home from the World Cup for an alleged breach of World Rugby's laws covering betting and anti-corruption.

The 48-year-old's departure is a huge blow just six days before Wales' opening game in Japan against Pool D opponents Georgia.

A Welsh Rugby Union statement said Howley had "returned to Wales to assist with an investigation".

The WRU confirmed it was in relation to a potential breach of betting on rugby.

Howler does it again!! :banghead: Absolute Muppet has let the side and country down - Attack Coach sent home with our opening game on the World's biggest rugby stage in 5 days....... perfect bl**dy timing.

Stephen Jones who will ultimately replace him permanently as Wales' Attack Coach is world class (and IMO far better) is taking over immediately, but this will be hugely disruptive to the team as a whole.

My 3 year old grandson was fascinated watching New Zealand and South Africa knocking lumps off one another, then he wanted to know why they didn`t punch the red one.

Certainly can't take anything away from Uruguay whatsoever, but coming off a 4 day turnaround after a tough, tough game against Australia could not have been easy for the Fijians.

That said, NOT a result I was expecting - I had Fiji to wipe the floor with the Uruguayans.....

Now comes the "backlash"........

Fiji on Brink of Exit After Uruguay Pull off Stunning 30-27 Win

"Uruguay left Fiji on the brink of exiting the Rugby World Cup at the pool stage as they pulled off a memorable win in Kamaishi.
In a frantic first half, Fiji were left stunned as Uruguay came from behind to lead through tries from Santiago Arata, Manuel Diana and Juan Manuel Cat.
Api Ratuniyarawa reduced the deficit for Fiji while Nikola Matawalu touched down to give them a losing bonus point.
Fiji remain fourth in Pool D but languish behind Wales and Australia."
