Let's say you want to be notified immediately if anything new worldwide is published about a specific subject. The "aluminium-air fuel cell" from the Electric Car thread is a good example.
Is there an application where you can enter the term you want to be kept up to date about which will give you a listing automatically each time you open your browser?

Hi PeteC
Try 'Google Alerts' will send you emails once a day or as new items appear, or most web browsers can be configured to 'Open' at a certain page, so do a search for 'The "aluminium-air fuel cell" from the Electric Car' when the results appear choose that page to open when you start the browser.

Thanks. I had no idea Google Alerts existed. I'll give it a try.

If you go to the opening post, next to reply there is a spanner, click on that and there is "Subscribe topic" click on that and you will then get an email notification each time there is a new post. You will also get a notification at the top right of the Forum page(the bell ) next to private messages which is next to your Forum name. I use it and it works. If you no longer wish to be notified of new posts just unsubscribe.

Once you found valuable data/info sources (that's the real obstacle!) then "news aggregators" can monitor and summarise site changes & updates for you. Such applications and services include simple browser features (like News in Opera), various browser extensions, dedicated desktop apps like Outposted @ https://xequte.com/other/index.html or mobile device apps (Flipboard etc.) and services like https://visualping.io/ etc. These of course only work with public/free info.
For more serious (journal etc.) publications and info you have to pass paywalls (find a friend with job access) and/or learn about alternative portals & sources.
