Vegetarian Meals

Post by Pagey »

Anyone know a vegetarian restaurant or restaurant that does good veggie meals ?

Must not include fish or be cooked in fish oil for friends who arrive on Saturday.

Thanks.

I think your friends will struggle
every thing seems to doused in fish sauce ,or sauce from fish or seafood origins ,
I cant eat any types of shell fish, sea foods or fish this including sauces, It has to be made quite clear every where that I eat at not to use any of these items in any of my food. i think you will have to do the same there are plenty of Thai vegetable dishes about remember to tell the person taking the order to ask the cook to lay off the fishy stuff of any kind and make sure they understand

Usually the threat of them paying my hospital bill if they make the mistake does the trick
I have had a couple of close calls in the past

I had a friend years ago in Rotterdam Dave who had the same problems. If he got a small dose of any kind of fish or fish sauce, the first reaction was that his lips would swell up to double normal size. That was his signal to simply run out of the restaurant to the nearest hospital. I only witnessed it once and he was admitted, as apparently the next stage is some kind of breathing problems. Scary stuff. Pete

PS: He initially told all of this at a business dinner with many other company people there. Needless to say after that night his nickname was "Lips"... :D

Not quite that severe in my case but it isn't very pleasant for me even if the cook uses the same pan what they have cooked with fish or fishy type stuff i get a reaction, I have only come across 2 other people and now a Dutchman called Lips
many folk think I'm taking the rise when i tell them

but thanks for verifying the condition Pete !

Does it have to be Thai food? As, I agree, it's difficult to get Thai food without any fish ingredients. If not, Italian & Indian are always good bets. Mama Mia, Lostivale & La Villa are all nice Italian restaurants & the posh Indian in Naresdamri Rd (Taj Mahal?) is nice.

For veggie Thai, try the Admiral's Pub, next to the Post Office. They will do a veggie alternative for any Thai dish on their menu (their menu is Scandinavian & Thai) using soya protein. Again, you will have to explain about the fish sauce, but their waiters speak very good English, so you should be certain of getting your message across. All of the restaurants I've mentioned do non-veggie food too.
