Logic is lost in Thailand.

You cant lose what you never had.

The school notice doesn't specify what time period students and teachers have visited these countries.
The past days, weeks, months?

PeteC wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2020 11:07 am Just received the below notice from Daughter's school this morning. As it's self-managing of course some will probably not pay attention to it.

Dear Parents and Carers

We have received an update from the International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT) relaying a new directive from the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Education has issued a directive to all schools in Thailand regarding COVID-19. The directive states that any families who have been to China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore or Japan must place themselves in 14 days of quarantine from their date of return to Thailand.

Any member of our school community who has been to one of the areas listed above should, therefore, stay away from school until they have completed this 14 days of quarantine (based on the day they arrived back in the country).
The list of countries has been extended:
The Office of the Private Education Commission has extended the countries needing self-quarantine following a visit to include Malaysia and Vietnam.

If students visited Malaysia or Vietnam 14 self-quarantine days are necessary from the day of entry into Thailand. This is in addition to ; China, Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore. Japan and Hong Kong

Two international schools in the East closed today, for how long I don't know. Caused by parents ignoring the self quarantine provision for their kids after returning from a target country, and some having signs of illness.

Planned yearly "International Day" festivities tomorrow cancelled at my daughter's school at the last minute due to the above events, and the risk a large gathering may cause.

Things are getting a bit more serious now over here in the east. :(

There are thousands of Korean and Japanese factory management types in the area here who come and go from their homeland, so it's a good bet that if things take off they will take off over here quite quickly.

Somebody needs to get a grip of this. Football may be a problem, ignoring self-isolation rules is a definite no, but the moto GP can go ahead because it might stimulate tourism (I wonder what countries they are aiming at?). This is not making sense. Lets have some consistency please.

Seems price hiking is rife and the junta would rather spend their money on tanks from Ukraine rather than masks for their people.

Outrage over mask shortages
People are crying foul over the shortage of masks amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, triggered by the death of a Thai man who was diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus.

Public complaints grew louder on Monday over the continuing lack of masks on the back of heightened concerns over the spread of Covid-19, which claimed the life of the 35-year-old man on Saturday night -- the first reported death from the virus in the country.

One more infection was reported on Monday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 43. The new patient was a 22-year-old Thai woman, who worked as a tour guide along with an already infected Thai, a driver for foreign tourists.

The Private Hospital Association also said their medical personnel have been seriously affected by the mask shortage.

Honestly I don't think many people, especially foreigners, are wearing masks unless they plan on going into a crowded shopping mall or the like.

The papers are full of reports about erratic supply of masks throughout the country. I would just keep checking at the normal places.

There is one school in Finland where students of two classes had been in close contact with someone with the virus + also one junior football team. All these people are now in quarantine at their homes. Only one infected person, others are in quarantine just for precaution.

I wonder what logic they're using.
Vietnam have no active cases (had 16 cases - all recovered)

Spain with 122 active cases, but not on the list!

Still a bit confused as to what the government can and can't do here. What power do they have?

If you fly in from one of those countries, or any other and have an unrelated cough or slight temperature or something can they seize you at the airport and lock you up for two weeks? Who pays the bills? Where is the quarantine facility? Are you allowed visitors?

I can't see anyone ever coming to this country again at this rate!
