Yes, of course. I had a friend return to the UK at the beginning of the week. To cut a long story short, 12 hours later he was collected by men in white suits, placed in hospital and everybody he'd come into contact with put into self-isolation mode. Fortunately, he tested negative for Covid-19, at which point we basically lost interest. However, he was still very sick, and was due for release today. They didn't say what the problem actually was.

Has anyone read anywhere why Italy initially came down with so many cases? Is the press saying due to Chinese tourists, Italian tourists to China, Chinese staffed companies based in the Milan region, other?

Apparently they haven't actually discovered the source in Italy yet, the first identified case had a colleague who had visited China but he tested negative.
This article is a bit more reassuring about things:

Thailand and Malaysia bar cruise ship over virus fears

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... irus-fears (Video at link)

Thailand and Malaysia have barred a cruise ship carrying about 2,000 people, including dozens of Italians, from docking due to fears about the new coronavirus, an official said Sunday.

The Costa Fortuna was first turned away from the popular Thai holiday island of Phuket Friday, despite there being no suspected virus cases aboard, according to its operator.

Thai authorities had imposed restrictions "on Italians that have transited in Italy in the last 14 days", Costa Cruises said on Twitter.

The ship is carrying 64 Italians, according to Malaysian officials.

Italy has been hard hit by the virus with more than 230 fatalities, the most deaths from the disease of any country outside China, where the outbreak began in December.

On Saturday the vessel tried to dock in the northern Malaysian state of Penang but was also refused entry, local politician Phee Boon Poh told AFP.

The decision was taken as Malaysia had decided to restrict entry of all cruise ships to the country's ports, he said. Malaysia's Star newspaper also reported a ban had been imposed.

After being denied entry by Malaysia, the ship was heading to neighbouring Singapore, said Phee.

The case has similarities with that of the Westerdam, a cruise ship that was at sea for two weeks and was rejected by five countries over fears its passengers could have the virus.

Cambodia finally allowed it to dock on the country's southern coast on Feb 13.

Worldwide, the total number of people with Covid-19 has passed 100,000 while 3,500 have died across 95 nations and territories.

Northern Italy has suspended all travel between towns. 3 month jail term a possibility if not adhered to. 16 million technically in a state of quarantine. In all the usual news sources.

I have friends on FB who are happily skipping between Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia without a care in the world. No self quarantine, no care for others and no sense. Happily posting pictures, too.

If this virus is indeed serious, of which I am skeptical, it is impossible to contain until all flights, trains etc are put on lockdown. Any other 'action' is pissing in the wind.

Thai authorities search for 80 Thais returning from S. Korea for fleeing quarantine

BANGKOK: Thailand's Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha on Sunday (March 8) said authorities are searching for 80 Thai labourers who arrived on Saturday at Suvarnabhumi international airport after returning from South Korea.

A total of 200 Thai labourers were registered on Saturday to fly back on four flights from South Korea.

"The returning Thais managed to escape from a restricted area in the premises of the airport as they were about to be escorted to Sattahip naval base for Covid-19 (coronavirus) screening prior to being quarantined," said Sathit.

"I have already instructed the Ministry's Disease Control Department Director-general Dr. Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai to find the names and addresses of the escapees from the list of all the Thai returnees from yesterday (Saturday) and to try to locate them, so they can enter their mandatory 14-day quarantine period," said Sathit.

The deputy health minister warned that all the escapees will face tough legal action in accordance with the Disease Control Act.

Suthirawat Suwanawat, general manager of Suvarnabhumi international airport, said on Sunday that there were 104 passengers, including 88 Thais, on the first flight from South Korea Saturday.

"15 were found to have high fevers and AOT (Airports of Thailand) immediately sent them to further tests. Out of the 73 left over, 66 were described by AOT as high risk," said Suthirawat.

He said that the high-risk Thai passengers were sent to Sattahip naval base for screening and the remaining Thais were sent to the airport's fire-fighting station to be taken to their home provinces for quarantine at designated facilities. Xinhua/Asian News Network

Typical Daily Mail sensationalism, no source of the expert(s)

The UK is reportedly preparing for as many as 100,000 deaths due to the virus. This figure was accepted by Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who stressed the government is looking at the 'scientific worst case scenario'.

Thought some might be interested on the quarantine facilities for returning individuals from 'virus countries'. Pictures at the link.

If other banks follow it'll be a real problem. I'm willing to help if tourists have a problem with exchanging cash, but my rates will be different from the banks.

VIDEO: Dramatic moment cabin crew restrain passenger who deliberately COUGHED at them
The footage of the incident, which is said to have taken place on a Thai Airways flight in Shanghai on Friday (6 March), was shared online by YouTube user Fugu M.

It was claimed that the plane had landed at Pudong International Airport in Shanghai but passengers were forced to remain in the plane for seven hours as a result of tighter screening procedures in place at the airport.
