Taxis

Post by pinsharp »

I am buying a villa in Khao tao and wonder if it would be feasible to set up an arrangement with a taxi driver for return trips to Hua Hin .. probably 2/3 times a week .. maybe more. I would prefer to use the same guy and agree a fixed rate (what should this be?) so that I dont have to barter on every trip.

I'm sure it would be feasible, but the price I have no idea about. I imagine it would be significantly more than an equivalent distance in Bangkok though, and you may also have to pay extra for having them 'on call' all the time. One issue you will probably have to deal with though is that it is unlikely that the same guy would always be available, but that will largely depend on the times you will be going and returning and if you have a regular schedule that he can work around. Hopefully somebody on here can recommend a reliable and trustworthy individual or company?

Where are you from Pinsharp?
I am from UK and find driving and parking in Hua Hin fine. Bangkok is a different story though. Did not find driving in France and USA a big problem with them being on the "wrong side" just take things nice and easy and you get used to it.
If you want a few beers just use a taxi

Hi there pinsharp.

Back in good ol days@ Stamford University my fellow friends and me we always have the Mobile Phone numbers of several Taxi drivers who offers the best prices in our Cellphones so that if we wanna go out to the market @ a time when no Shuttle bus is going out to downtown we can call them and they pick us up to go out into downtown. One particullar driver who has transported us to downtown Hua Hin and back was Ozzi's Taxi. He has been a friend of Stamford Students for a long Time. and even served us when our old University Shuttle Bus was broken down. Now He's not driving or not even in Hua Hin anymore after he got into Big trouble and had to flee HUa Hin overnight.
The moral for you pinsharp is try as many taxi drivers as possible and if you got the price you want try to get hold of theil Cellphone number. when you call them make sure they transport you for the same price as they had been before.
With Ozzi we could trust him that he'll gave always us the same rate.

My house is in Hua Hin and I have a couple of regular taxi drivers. I used one of them for a return trip to Khao Tao to visit a friend and the return journey was at 1am.

I was charged 700 Baht return. I was told by my friend that this was a good rate, however I'm sure someone will have beat it.

I would suggest taking lots of taxis home from Hua Hin and when you find a driver you like, try to negotiate a deal with him. After you do that, do the same again another 2/3 times until you have a regular pool of drivers.

That way you will be able to get a taxi anytime, at an agreed price from taxi drivers who know where you live.
