There will always be a lot of doubt, but it's the only truth we have, and it is what will be recorded in history books.

Those current USA stats are shocking - I assume they'll improve in the coming weeks.

Nature Heals During Covid-19

Post by Lost »

Mods feel free to move this. Wasn't sure the best place to put it.

During these increasingly difficult times, seeing some positives can help. Maybe after all this, we'll see a slight shift in our behaviour. Less excess. We're too many using too much.

Seen some incredible clips and pics of nature rebuilding in areas where our excessive consumption had nigh on totalled it. And some that were simply good light relief. A few off of a quick YouTube search to start.

Edit: Be warned, there are a gazillion false clips going about also. 'The River Thames now teeming with Killer whales and humpbacks' - stuff of that nature.

The flu kills, on average using 2019 stats, 46 people a day in the United Kingdom. The UK passed that mark yesterday. Italy is far beyond their mark (to put this a little more bluntly theirs is at close to 800 deaths a day).

Spain is beginning to struggle similar.

Not the flu.

Why would you assume that? Just asking.

I assume that because of trends in other countries with the number recovering steadily increasing. If the recovery trend doesnt start to improve then the virus has moved into a much more serious stage.

I'm assuming the latter. If you follow the Italian trend, they got hammered then had a few days of no cases and now back to being absolutely battered. Obviously I wish for your first assessment.

Agreed, BB. If you remember a while ago, when I first started producing stats (I was quite optimistic in those days), I mentioned to watch that % deaths in relation to recoveries. It started high and came down as recoveries increased.

Those same stats for China now:
China

Coronavirus Cases: 81,054

Deaths: 3,261

Recovered: 72,440

ACTIVE CASES 5,353

in Mild Condition 3,508 (66%)

Serious or Critical 1,845 (34%)

CLOSED CASES 75,701

Recovered / Discharged 72,440 (96%)

Deaths 3,261 (4%)

OK, not on a UK stupid scale, but I notice a few farang treats starting to disappear off supermarket shelves. I don't think panic buying will reach 'stupid proportions' here, but I can see us having to survive without a few treats for a while. Still plenty of toilet roll though, although I haven't checked stocks of bum guns

According to my family in Bangkok, panic buying is happening there. Fortunately, not in Hua Hin..... yet!

I've just watched two press conferences, one from Trump and one from the WHO in Geneva. What a massive difference. In Geneva, 3 reps sitting well apart from each other. All journalists linked by phone or computer. To ask a question, the journalist, presses an icon and waits for his name to be called. Plus of course, the panel talks sense.

Compare that with a Trump press conference. Half a dozen people huddled around ONE microphone. Trump saying one thing, usually false, and being politely contradicted by his wingers.

Link to the WHO press conference:

Thailand reports 188 new coronavirus cases, brings total to nearly 600

Thai Enquirer might be having a day off (hopefully)

The 188 new cases puts Thailand 3rd in new cases.

For an interesting read look up Dr, Mathis Rath & read his current newsletter on the virus. To make it more interesting, do what he suggests.
