mountain bike in HH

Post by calum »

Hi,
I'll be in HH in August/September but I'm bringing my own bike with me. I'd like to meet up with other mtb'ers there to ride some trails. I'd appreciate any info on local bike clubs or bike shops.

thanks,
Calum

Hua Hin Bike on Petchakasem north of downtown (beach side of the road) is the major supplier. Really nice. No rentals as far as I know, but I bought my bike there and they've been great about service etc.

Hua Hin Bike Club is very active, but almost entirely Thai. Inquire at the shop, but it'd be good to have translator.

I'm out of town, or I'd join you.

Hi dahobbit,
thanks for the info. I have already found Hua Hin bike shop and the owner there (Khun SomChai) has been very helpful, even arranging ride outs for me with his friends. I'm in there most days for an iced coffee too after my ride!

His English is fairly limited but it's easy enough to talk about things relating to cycling and I've learned the odd bit of Thai into the bargain.

If anyone else needs to visit the shop it is at 11/37-38 Petchakasem Road, just before the PTT gas station.

cheers,
Calum

Hi Rosso,
did you ever get to Hua Hin for some cycling? I'm off to Cape Panwa, Phuket in three weeks time and I'm taking my bike with me again. I don't suppose you (or anyone else here) know of any local clubs or groups there for mountain bikes?

regards,
Calum

The only bike shop worth going to is 'Pro Bike' as mentioned in an earlier post, it is next to the ptt petrol station just north of the town centre.
I generally do around 30-50k a day. and sometimes Dolphin Bay (about 100k round trip)
There are a few of us that go for rides ranging from plodders to racing snakes.
Although there are some off road routes I generally stick to tracks and country roads. You definitly need a mountain bike over here as some of the pot holes are very deep!!
Another thing you have to concider is rehydration. It gets pretty hot over here in the middle of the day and don't forget your sweating as well.
I use a camelback which holds 2 liters and still have to buy a lot more on route.
The bike shop club members generally go about 35kms per hour which is quite tirying over 40k, but they stay on the road.
The area is pretty flat until you get up into the mountains where you encounter a lot of loose sand off road (very tirying)
Hope these snippets are helpful in some way 8)

You do mountin biking???

And there was me thinking you just spent all your time getting foot Massages.

Do you think you will be up to this activity after a night of Jaegermeister.
