Covid-19 News & Updates
Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
My daughter has just returned from collecting her free 'food parcel' given by the Tessabahn. She was 122nd in the queue and she said that there were 500 behind her. Less that 50 metres from the collection point they were respecting 'social distancing'. But beyond that it was 'shoulder to shoulder'!!

Yes, I've just been to pay my water bill, so I had a good view of what was happening.. The seats near the distribution point for free food were very well spaced. The seats at the back of the park were side by side with little air gap.HHTel wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 11:25 am My daughter has just returned from collecting her free 'food parcel' given by the Tessabahn. Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Apparently, the curfew will remain in place for another month until the end of May. Very limited relaxation of restrictions are expected. We didn't really have a 'curve' to flatten. A one day peak on March 22nd of 188 followed by 10 days of 100 - 150, mostly in the low end. Since then it's been on a downward direction. Thailand has 655 active cases across the whole country and 48 deaths, mostly in BKK and it's neighbours.
More than half of the provinces (around 44) are virus free including 9 provinces that have never had any infections. Yet still we see no significant easing of restrictions. Actually quite the opposite.
In contrast just to take one state in the US. Georgia have over 18,500 active cases and 775 deaths.
Is the government here living on a power kick? In the meantime, the country is going down the swanee and taking a lot of it's citizens with it.
Edit: Just to add to that, Georgia has a population of 10.5 million. Thailand: 69.5 million!

Other states are allowing theatres, social clubs and the like to open. Some from as soon as next Monday. The Republican governors of Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina moved to let some businesses reopen, including gyms, restaurants and beaches, though social distancing protocols will remain in effect to varying degrees.

Of course, its what a dictatorship does - control through a state of fear.
Just as an aside, I notice that Thai deaths by suicide are increasing and far outnumber those reportedly by Covid-19.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
But no-one talks about the incidence of patients under investigation (PUI), which seem to be increasing. Some with mild symptoms after testing are sent home for 14 day quarantine, others go into hospital and officially become PUI (not the first group) and some go straight to ICU.
When the government administers testing, patients are divided into three categories. Patients who test positive with no symptoms are sent home to self-quarantine. Patients displaying symptoms are labelled a person under investigation (PUI) and monitored at a hospital until they no longer show symptoms. Patients with a severe reaction to the virus are sent to the ICU.
There are other factors at play here. Lift the controls and many workers will return to Bkk and guess what will happen.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
So where are all these incidences of increasing PUIs happening, as I can't work out where they are being reported?

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
I believe that PUI's are those in quarantine. It may include test +ve with few or no symptoms, but also includes incoming international travellers and those that have been in contact with confirmed or suspected cases.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
Not in HH it would seem. All 166 that were in quarantine here (mostly returnees I'd say) have all been released into the wild!!
A PUI is a person 'suspected' of having covid-19. If at sometime they prove 'positive' then they would appear in confirmed cases. Until then they're innocent until proved guilty.
We refer to the suspected cases of COVID-19 as patients under investigation (PUI). If a traveler exhibits the
following traits, then they will be considered a PUI as follows:
Patients have signs and symptoms as follows:
documented body temperature greater than or equal to 37.3°Celsius accompanied by any of the following
respiratory symptoms: cough, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing. With one
of the following exposure risks within 14 days prior to illness onset:
1) Arrived from or resided in areas of the Disease Infected Zone (DIZ) and Ongoing Local
Transmission Areas as defined by the Department of Disease Control
2) Worked closely with tourists
3) Had close contact with probable or confirmed cases of COVID-19
4) Healthcare workers who had contact with people who met the case definition for patients under
investigation (PUI) of COVID-19, and
5) Are involved with places or have had history of going to with places that had confirmed cases
Confirmed COVID-19 cases are defined as a PUI who has tested positive for genetic material of SARSCoV-2 by PCR from two reference laboratories, or by genetic sequencing, or by culture.
