Coronavirus Precautions/News/Updates for Hua Hin/Prachuap
Re: Coronavirus Precautions/Updates - Hua Hin
There's been no official news or updates about this application for quite a long time. I hope they are working on improvements before the anticipated "second wave" strikes here.

The article in the Bangkok Post is dated 22nd June which in relative terms was not that long ago.
https://www.bangkokpost.com/tech/193884 ... -of-safetyToday, the Thai Chana platform does not ask for your mobile phone number when you check in. If you use the Thai Chana app, it will only ask for your mobile phone as part of the registration process.
"The app does not even ask for your name," said Somkid.
If you use Thai Chana app to scan a QR code, it will automatically check in for you and soon a group check-in function will be available as well. You may also check out later if you forget to do so after leaving the place or else the system will force check out at midnight, meaning data will be cleared out daily.
After a user checks in with the app, it will send an anonymous code to the server for collection, similar to when we swap a credit card. The system will not send our credit card numbers but it will send a code for safety reasons.
"The checked-in data will enable us to know places where people visit but we will not know who they are," he said. The data is used for displaying customer density at any given location.

Without intending to be facetious, the first wave wasn't much to write home about. (Assuming the figures are correct)

^ That's good. It shows they are trying to get any bugs out of it and make it more useful, hopefully.

Believe me, I still use it several times daily - it is still unfit for purpose unless the population is willing.

It still doesn't clarify whether it's a true contact tracing app. Previous statements say that it's not designed to contact trace. Only designed to highlight 'hot spots'. That's sort of backed up by BB's post sometime ago warning him about entering a shop because there were too many people there, although BB said that visually the shop was near empty.
Re: Coronavirus Precautions/Updates - Hua Hin
The app works, but only if the population want it to work. It is easy to abuse, so it is. Shops are only paying lip service to it also, with QR becoming increasingly inaccessible. To get into Tesco, MV this morning I found the codes inside the shop, and I deliberately blocked the entrance whilst scanning.
To scan properly, it takes 15 to 30 seconds. Those who wave their phones at the QR Code and return them to their pockets are

But is it a 'contact tracing app'. The developers say it's not.The app works, but only if the population want it to work.
Re: Coronavirus Precautions/Updates - Hua Hin
Yes, it is, if it does as advertised i.e. if you check in and out, and it becomes knowledge that there was an infected person in the same vicinity at about the same time a message will be sent to the recorded phone number advising that person to report for a FREE Covid test.
OK, it isn't a 100% belt and braces contact tracing app, but if used properly with willing users, it isn't far from it.

Re: Coronavirus Precautions/Updates - Hua Hin
From reading around I thought when I returned to Thailand I would have to load some type of tracing app but was never asked to do so.

Re: A Covid-19 experience
Is there an anti bodies test available in Hua Hin yet? I recall you being quite knowledgeable about the principles of said testHHTel wrote:I'll pass on the forum's good wishes.
Fortunately, because her husband is in the US Navy, the test was free. Otherwise it's 350 USD. They have to wait 4 days for the results but their doctor is pretty much convinced what the result will be.
Andre, her husband, pretty much knows how he got it. One of his duties was to ferry inmates from the local jail to and from hospital. Yes both he and the inmates wore masks but the sneaky virus still found a way in. As he says, they are the only people he's been in contact with.

This is strictly an opinion, mine.
I don't think there is much question now that eventually every human on the planet will be exposed to Covid-19, and catch it to some degree. A vaccine is still a long way off and none have been proven to work. There is also a large segment of people who are very scared of any vaccine.
Regardless, we talk about "precautions" and in good old hindsight especially for older people, it may have been best to simply be exposed to it when it started and fight it at that point. We are all now almost another year older and weaker and that becomes a big issue for let's say the over 65's.
We also wasted a year of our lives hiding and doing very little of what we wanted to do, and when out avoiding anything and everything that seemed a risk, not to mention the damn masks.
As far as the kids are concerned they're starting to talk about a lost generation in terms of education and their eventual ability to enter into a productive life in society.
It's not an easy subject and there is no one to blame I guess, except some stupid person who did something nasty with or to a bat! And.....there is no end in sight.
I feel better now.
