It's pretty much bang up to date and was only aired on BBC in July.
It must have been a repeat, because I watched it a year ago From what I remember, quite a few inaccuracies. I wasn't aware of the Ayutthaya cable car, which is one I must look out for next time I'm up there. I did enjoy it.
When I watched it, it was more than just 4 episodes, and took in Vietnam and Malaysia also.
Must be a repeat then, because I watched it earlier this year, but it is a recent filming and as you say, worth a look
(Edit) I posted my reply before seeing BB’s reply!!
You're right. I only picked out the Thailand episodes. Surprised you saw it a year ago as Portillo mentions the year 2020 several times and those episodes were first shown in January through February.
Very interesting none the less.
The cable car across the river has apparently been there for a while. There are still adverts on the net as a tourist attraction.
Cable Car Across the River at a Unique Temple in Ayutthaya
May 8, 2018
It’s not every day you board a cable car to visit a temple, but then again Wat Niwet Thamprawat is no ordinary temple. Located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Ayutthaya, Wat Niwet Thamprawat is the only Buddhist temple in Thailand which is designed to look like a Western cathedral.

Talking of Documentaries and Thailand, there are two programmes available on BBC2 - called Thailand: Earth’s Tropical Paradise - the first episode is “The Secrets of the South” and the second, “The Central Heartland”.

I watched The Secrets of the South last night and thoroughly recommend it - it contains many things about Thailand that I was unaware about.

Another one I've watched - isn't there a 3rd talking about the North?
At the moment, they are only showing two episodes that are available, but if they are showing the programmes “live” it could be that the third programme will become available to watch later this week once it’s aired in the UK
I'm really enjoying a sports documentary series called 30 For 30 from ESPN.
I have little interest in American Rugby, American Rounders or American Netball but there are some cracking episodes.
Highlights thus far.
1) Baseball... House of Steinbrenner,
2) American Football...Marino vs Montana, The '85 Chicago Bears
3) Basketball Bad Boys, tells the story of the Detroit Pistons, they were a bit like the 70's Leeds Utd.
You can download the whole Series here, big download so be patient....
On BBC iPlayer but sure available on the usual suspects.
