Heading for another lockdown and alcohol ban ...

Hundreds at risk as rules ignored
Hundreds of people are at risk of contracting Covid-19 after coming in close contact with a man who tested positive for the disease, according to the Department of Disease Control.

The man, an inmate, was Thailand's first locally transmitted case after over 100 days. He was identified as a DJ who later tested positive after being placed under quarantine in prison.

Department officials are in the process of screening 970 people who came in contact with the 37-year-old inmate and found some of them shared drinking glasses and ignored social distancing measures at dining venues where the man was present before he was sent to jail.

Some of these venues did not check the temperatures of visitors and failed to ask them to use Thai Chana's check-in feature.

The department on Sunday reported that among the 970 people, 119 were deemed at high risk while 851 were deemed at low risk.

However, after testing 516 people, results for 513 of them came back negative, while the rest are still pending.

:lach: Seriously???

A product that is not fit for purpose :banghead: and who can afford to employ somebody to check people's temperatures in the current climate?

My son was out at 2 places last night - Baan Khun Por where he couldn't find anywhere to check in; and The Circle, where he found the check-in zone, but was told it is not necessary any longer.

TIT - the Teflon country.

Thailand - Thousands of rules, nobody to enforce them.

This goes back to my previous post. Has this guy been confirmed as positive. Has he had a second confirmatory test? Hard to believe they're basing everything on just one test but TIT.

I think they'll base anything on anything to maintain a strict grip of control and keep a permanent emergency decree in place. Its all about the bigger picture, Covid is just one small part of it.

State-run hospitals in Tak have appealed for donations of medical supplies for protection against Covid-19, saying their stocks are all but exhausted after the first wave of the outbreak and they are now having to treat patients from Myanmar which is now being battered by the pandemic.

Why aren't all the cases in Tak being reported and counted in the daily reports if hospitals there are really in a bad way? Why haven't their stocks of ppe been replenished?

Myanmar patients were rushed to the hospital in critical condition from the other side of the border. The hospital cannot turn them away, she said.
Of course the hospital has to treat them, but how are they getting across a CLOSED border?
The border line from northernmost Tha Song Yang district to southernmost Umphang district stretches more than 600 kilometres, which makes it impossible for security forces to patrol the border around the clock, she said.
So why not re-deploy troops to where they are really needed? We seem to have plenty in this area whose main role is cutting grass.
The message, "Today, we take 12 truckloads of Myanmar nationals for a tour of Khao Kho" and pictures of the migrants on pickup trucks were posted to social media by the "Thongchai Khao Kho tour service".
I myself have seen a group of at least 20 Myanmar nationals, touring on big bikes at Khao Tao. It did make me wonder if they were working here, or had nipped across the border through one of the routes not policed.
They said some of the migrants were seen not wearing face masks.
For any of you who follow Richard Barrow, he has weaseled his way on to yet another freebie, this time touring 20 Northern provinces with a bunch of tour operators. I looked at his photos this morning - in over 30 photos, many showing local tourists, only Richard and 5 others were wearing masks. I guess this is the dirty Farang syndrome coming out again. Squeaky clean Thai tourists are exempt.

[Edit] For some reason, typed, 'at least 40 Myanmar nationals' when I should have typed 'at least 20 Myanmar nationals'

Reported today:
Thailand's six new imported cases of Covid includes three Thai men who were previously infected but had been certified virus-free before flying from Singapore.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Sunday the three men -- aged 43, 53 and 56 -- tested postitive for the virus after arriving on Friday.

An official at the CCSA call centre said they had contracted the virus in Singapore, but then made a full recovery. They applied for and received certificates of good health from the Thai embassy before boarding the flight, as required for every person flying into Thailand.

The men were tested again upon arrival -- and diagnosed with Covid-19.

It was not immediately clear how the course of events could have taken place. The final Singapore tests or the tests on arrival in Thailand could have delivered incorrect results. Alternatively, the men caught the disease, recovered and then caught it again. That would imply they had no immunity to the disease even after contracting it, which could make any vaccine ineffective.

Edit: The above may be misleading. Just noticed that it's in the Learning Section of the BKK Post so could be old news.

I think some of these tests are picking up dead virus. It's been reported as happening in many places in the world. The tests apparently are ultra sensitive and can't tell the difference between live and dead virus cell.

Yes, that happened a few weeks ago with two women who were planning on traveling out of Thailand and they were tested positive. It was later reported that they'd had covid and what remained was dead virus.

Back in the UK Boris is considering reducing the amount of people allowed in one area (currently 30). Bolton has already been told to shut up shop and Xmas for everyone is looking a doubt (not that anyone will follow a 2nd lockdown should there be one).

This is after a rise in cases saw the last two days record 3000 new infections in a row. Deaths went up to double digits again today. (11)

I think they should just lockdown (and provide all essentials for) all the people who are already sick, or living with sick people, as... if you are healthy, you have more chance of winning the lottery than being badly affected by covid.

Meanwhile Amazon is going to continue getting richer. If anyone's read 'The Store' by James Patterson, you'll be like me in thinking this story will become a reality one day.

Sorry UK news again.

Figures coming out, partly from track and trace measures, say it's the 20 to 30 year olds driving the rise in cases. Lack of social distancing. At least in Bolton's case anyway (source BBC news on telly). My experience of track and trace in London is that it's enforced quite seriously. I trust the figures for the most part.

We need to look at living with Covid for the time being.

Open up shop! The young, the able bodied and the healthy...all of these can keep the world turning while we shield the vulnerable and those living with them. Until we know more.

Just my opinion.

Back to Thailand ...

Army frets over Covid threat from illegal migrants
Three "layers" of protection are essential in keeping at bay the Covid-19 outbreak which threatens to enter the country through its land borders, according to the army.

Gen Nathapol Srisawat, the army's special adviser and the force's director of the disaster mitigation centre, said on Tuesday that neighbouring countries where outbreaks occur, border surveillance efficiency and businesses refusing to hire illegal migrant workers will all play a vital part in stemming the flow of the virus into the country.

They form the three layers of protection against the overland transmission of the virus, he said.

Many foreign nationals have reportedly slipped into the country illegally to search for work and escape outbreaks in their countries. Many have been caught along the border on almost on a daily basis, according to local officials.

Ukrainian church leader who called Covid-19 'God's punishment' for same-sex marriage tests positive for virus

A prominent Ukrainian church leader who previously said the Covid-19 pandemic was "God's punishment" for same-sex marriage has tested positive for the virus.

Patriarch Filaret, head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church--Kiev Patriarchate, is reportedly stable and undergoing treatment. The church announced in a Facebook post on September 4 that Filaret had tested positive for Covid-19.
