Yes, if you read back up the thread, nobody had received such a message. For day to day shopping, this is supposedly the biggest advantage of using Thai Chana, giving you the information to allow you to make that vital decision.dtaai-maai wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 4:18 pmI'm having a 'what happened next' moment here. Is it just a message on your phone that you can completely ignore?

Haven't noticed much about this lately, but it was reported a couple of weeks ago as having problems. It works with Bluetooth, so no Internet connection required.

South Korea, from what I've read, has a very effective tracking and tracing system, which includes an app. A lot of the system was already in place due to the MERS outbreak they had there a few years ago.

New Zealand has also done a good job on contract tracing and isolation - though I'm not sure they used an app.
Edit: Yes, they were using an app as well.

Re: Thai Chana app
As much as I hate Thai Chana, until today, I have always used it.
Today I tried to check in at Market Village, and it would only let me continue if I downloaded something to my phone. There is no way I am going to let something randomly download to my phone, without knowing more about what I am downloading. So me and Thai Chana are finished.
I'm just wondering if anybody else has had the same experience. Did you accept the download? What does it do?

Re: Thai Chana app
I gave up using it some time ago. Well done, BB, for sticking it out. No prize I'm afraid.
Re: Thai Chana app
The prize, if I'd accepted it, would have been something I didn't want downloaded to my phone.

I used Thai Chana today at Makro. No downloads required. Are you sure it wasn't just an update. Current version is 1.6.1.Big Boy wrote:As much as I hate Thai Chana, until today, I have always used it.

Re: Thai Chana app
I used it at Bluport yesterday, no problem. Tried at Market Village today and it was trying to force a download on me.
I have been using the light version that downloaded nothing to my phone, it was purely accessing a web page, which was what I agreed to. Trying to sneak something on to my phone without giving me any notification of what it is has to sound warning bells.

Re: Thai Chana app
Using the app is a lot simpler than using the web site. But you may have reservations, so up to you.
Re: Thai Chana app
I don't even have a smart phone so it's impossible for me to do all this app Thai Chana stuff.
I've never been refused entry to anywhere. I do have to give my telephone number occasionally and if I can remember that without taking the phone out of my pocket, they're welcome to it.

Re: Thai Chana app
Given the option to check the app out properly, I might have accepted. However, it is basic personal security not to accept a random download that you are not expecting. I've no idea what they are pushing, and they aren't trying to help me/explain, so I opt out. Anybody who does anything else to such a download notification is plainly stupid and leaving themselves open to all kinds of abuse.
NB: I'm sure hhinner did not receive his app in such a way.
Let them push it formally and give me the chance to decide, and I might consider.

Re: Thai Chana app
Download it from the store. In Android it asks permission to use camera and location. In fact it has never used location on my phone.
Re: Thai Chana app
Personally, I wouldn't allow any Thai state software anywhere near my device, they don't exactly have the best track record when it comes to security, data privacy, and transparency.

Re: Thai Chana app
Glad to hear it. At least you were given some information, and chose to download based on the information you were given.
In my case, the website was trying to force a download as part of the check-in process. How do I know the website has not been hacked? I cant see this Government rushing out to admit it.
It is all personal choice. The original Thai Chana was a light application, which downloaded nothing to your phone as advertised. I looked at the process, and concluded it did what it said on the tin. Whilst being unfit for purpose, I was happy to give up the information it was requesting.Personally, I wouldn't allow any Thai state software anywhere near my device
When it moved on to a downloaded app, it offered no distinct advantages to the light app. I became suspicious. It was still unfit for purpose, so why did they have another version of the same useless software? So I'm with you - the modern world is moving towards light If I am to move to a heavy application on my phone, I need to evaluate the reasons for doing so. Until those reason become transparent, I'm out of there.

Re: Thai Chana app
When I go to these places I just point my phone at the QR code and walk in, I never press anything and the guards seem to be satified.
Totally irresponsible of me I know, but when the security guards actually look at the temperature they've just taken maybe I'll take it more seriously - I accept that some guards do look at the reading.
