My daughter-in-law is delighted with her Vivo Y50, which cost about 8,000฿. She (and my son) really rave about the intelligent camera. So the question is, what alternative brands are recommended? Huawei/Xiaomi/Oppo/Vivo/Wiko
Which Mobile Phone?
Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Before you discount Samsung, their latest range give you a hell of a lot of phone for half of what the used to cost. <5,000฿ gets you something decent. I've kitted a couple of family members with the A20 and they're delighted. A hell of a lot better than my Samsung that cost 12,000฿.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Having had two Samsungs that both became unusable before their time due to battery depletion and constant upgrades, I'm very reluctant to go with another - hence the question. Budget is about 6-7k.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
I used android phones exclusively until five years ago, when I finally gave in and got an iPhone 6s. I still use that very same 6s and it has been a phenomenal phone. Five years later and it still accepts the latest iOS update and I replaced the battery last year, so I probably won’t need to upgrade for awhile. I also have an iPad and MacBook Air. I highly recommend Apple products.

Good point and yes had one for a year nowDannie Boy wrote:You shouldn’t have to resort to it, but for better sound experience, you could consider investing in a small Bluetooth speaker?
but they're not much good on a flight, the gym, a bike ride etc etc still need headphones
I guess thats down to the OS?
Im still so deflated about this, literally had the cash on the counter. What a coincidence the girl had the exact same phone! Might go and test again...

Its more likely to do with the hardware, so I would take your headphones and test out a few devices until you find one that sounds how you want it to.
Let us know what you end up getting.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Well yeah but genuine question as I've never bought in Thailand.... will they let me do that in MV? Can I take it out of the sealed box and test it? And if I'm not happy I can say "no!" ?buksida wrote:Its more likely to do with the hardware, so I would take your headphones and test out a few devices until you find one that sounds how you want it to.

I should be able to do that of course but just checking I can do that here?
It's currently between the redmi note 9 and the realme 6
Maybe will check Samsung M21/M31
One other option is to buy the Pro version of a redmi note 7 or 8. I certainly don't need to have the very latest version of a phone. But pretty sure that means buying online and I'd rather buy in a shop
Other than Laza or Shopee is there any other trusted online retailer I should be looking at for delivery to Thailand?

Every time I've bought a phone from MV they have unboxed it and set it up in English for me and set up the e mail.
BTW my latest is a Samsung A10s,(5,000 baht) good screen size for my book reading app and great sound with bluetooth ear buds.

Well no, they're not going to rip open sealed boxes for you unless you buy, but there are hundreds of phones up there being used so asking staff if anyone has one is likely to produce the said device.thecolonel wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 12:07 pm Can I take it out of the sealed box and test it? A pal recently bought an M31, very impressive spec and battery (6000 mAh) for the price.

(I will take mine to to check that redmi note 9 again but....) Generally speaking do Bluetooth buds give a greater volume than wired?

Well I would be buying as such but surely I can then reject if I'm dissatisfied with an element of performance(eg volume) ?buksida wrote:Well no, they're not going to rip open sealed boxes for you unless you buy, but there are hundreds of phones up there being used so asking staff if anyone has one is likely to produce the said device.thecolonel wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 12:07 pm Can I take it out of the sealed box and test it? As long as you end up buying something, I’m sure they’ll be quite accommodating - less so if you try 2 or 3 and then walk away.
Regarding Bluetooth earbuds, I doubt that they’ll perform better (maybe slightly worse) than wired ones!

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
My earbuds give a far greater sound quality than wired, I noticed on my phone that when I use earbuds on Bluetooth there is an added feature called Dolby Atmos whick kicks in.thecolonel wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 12:41 pmJust had a thought...sateeb wrote:Every time I've bought a phone from MV they have unboxed it and set it up in English for me and set up the e mail.

You're lucky if your phone has two front facing speakers. Instead, Dolby Atmos for smartphones is a software-based solution that kicks in when playing back content over headphones. ... 3D Sound Labs Manipulating a range of frequency and time based audio cues is the key to simulating surround sound through headphones.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Dolby Atmos is great but unfortunately you won't find it in the play store. If it's a must-have you need to buy a phone with it already installed as a system app. If you're comfortable with rooting and downloading then you could probably find a version that might work well on your phone.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
I don’t think you’ll get that in a 5-6,000 Baht phone?
Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Maybe in a Lenovo k series note. I once had a k3 note and that had it. Lenovo phones not well represented in Thailand.
