Vaccines - Covid 19
Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Thank you hhinner, but......................
Not being one to let the grass grow, and being very keen to get my wife vaccinated, I asked my daughter to follow the notice through (she has a good friend at the Tessebahn).
My daughters friend advised if my wife went to the 2nd Floor Red Cross Building, she could register. Just needed her ID Card. We went about 30 minutes ago, a blood pressure check, weight check, quick medical history and she is now registered. Just needs to await the call.
They said my wife was the first to register this way. They also stated that they were being inundated with cancellations, which is in line with what thecolonel has been saying.
For anybody else wanting to register a qualifying Thai, this is the door my wife walked through.

Given age, she has to get the AstraZeneca ( or other from the West) and not the Chinese brands, correct?

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
I thought Thailand only had Sinovac unless you were a General.
I'll be honest, I've given up on all of this tit for tat, ours is better than theirs crap. The whole thing seems to be politically motivated. I've basically bowed out of any discussions because there is so much political bias. Of course each country wants to sell its own vaccines.
The only thing I really look at is the daily numbers. If they are to believed, the Chinese have all but sorted the Covid problem. Thailand is doing the same with Sinovac.
Are there proven reasons my wife and every other vulnerable person in Thailand should not have Sinovac?

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
The only thing I'm going on is the PM was going to get the Sinovac but at the last minute didn't because he was over 60. He finally got the Astra Zeneca.
I can't say at this point if it is now procedure here, or anywhere, for over 60's not to get Sinovac. Has guidance changed? What is China doing? Nothing I can reference giving definite answers at the moment.

I've just read the vaccine won't actually physically arrive until June

When I assumed Sinovac, it was because I thought it was going to be done soon.

What happened to the facility that was supposed to produce the vaccine in Thailand and be ready for distribution by, I think, April?

Thai-developed COVID-19 vaccine starts human trials (March 22 article)handdrummer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 1:57 pm What happened to the facility that was supposed to produce the vaccine in Thailand and be ready for distribution by, I think, April?

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand started human trials on Monday of a domestically developed coronavirus vaccine and expects to deploy it next year, which its health minister said could give the country more freedom with its vaccine policy.
Thailand’s vaccination drive is targeting the inoculation of half of its adult population by the end of the year using 61 million doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine, which will be locally produced from June.
The home-grown vaccine candidate is being developed by state drug maker, the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), with Mahidol University’s Tropical Medicine Department and an American non-profit and uses an inactivated virus to trigger immunity.
“The vaccine, produced by Thais for Thais, is expected to be used next year,” Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, chairman of the Mahidol University Council, told a news conference.
Thailand’s progress comes as countries including Japan and Taiwan speed up domestic vaccine development programmes amid tight global supply and concerns about new COVID-19 variants.
Vietnam last week said its locally developed vaccine would be available by the fourth quarter of this year.
Mahidol University’s dean, Bangjong Mahaisavariya, said 460 volunteers would be accepted for the human trials, 210 of whom would be used in the first phase. Phase two is expected to begin in July, with results by year-end.
The Thai vaccine candidate modifies the avian Newcastle Disease virus with a COVID-19 spike protein and is replicated using egg-based technology, the GPO said.
Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the vaccine would give Thailand more options with less constraints.
“Even though we can produce vaccines in the country, it is from technology transfer and under management of brands,” he told the news conference.
“But today, if we are successful we can set our own direction.”
Another homegrown vaccine is being developed by Chulalongkorn University and uses Messenger RNA (mRNA) technology. It is expected to start human trials soon.
Thailand has recorded 27,876 coronavirus cases in total, with 91 deaths.

Thailand's mass vaccination strategy is heavily reliant on the AstraZeneca shot, which will be produced locally from June for regional distribution, with 61 million doses reserved for its population.
The dates tie in nicely.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
That should be 'will', maybe! So far their vaccine rollout is one of the worst in the world and definitely the worst in SE Asia. There's been many reports since the beginning of the year ---- "mass vaccinations to start this week/ next week/ next month". "The whole country will be vaccinated by October/ end of the year/ " etc etc.Chinese have all but sorted the Covid problem. Thailand is doing the same with Sinovac.
Like BB, I don't think it matters a great deal which vaccine it is. Some are reported better than others but no vaccine is 100%.
It's very likely that once they do get started, vaccines will be mixed. i.e. different vaccines for the first and second dose. There are currently studies going on with regard to mixing vaccines but to date, no data is available.
In the past there have been occasions when a mix of vaccines produces better results than using one.
Still, I think Thailand is a long way from that unless someone pulls their finger out.

The local production was never supposed to start until June, ever since the first announcements of it.handdrummer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 31, 2021 1:57 pm What happened to the facility that was supposed to produce the vaccine in Thailand and be ready for distribution by, I think, April?
Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
Yes, I have a Zoom get together every Wednesday with family in the UK. Every one has been vaccinated, some with a different 1st & 2nd vaccine. They've all had a variety of vaccines, some with side effects, some without, but they've all got over it in a few days - often little more than a headache. I'm convinced most of the doom and gloom is politically motivated trying to sell one ahead of the other. Despite what the conspiracists say, I'm sure we'd have heard more scary stuff by now if it was close to being true.

Re: Vaccines - Covid 19
That's good. We can wait until next Monday when registration is local. Currently over 60s will get OxAZ vaccine. But that could change. When, if, my wife gets called I'll go too and ask if they have any spare shots.Big Boy wrote:Thank you hhinner, but......................

My daughter did ask if it would be possible for me to register at the same time, but there was a resounding no. However, it has to be worth a try - TIT, most things are possible
