Yes, must admit I can't remember not being able to find a sporting event I was looking for - rarely fails with regards to streaming quality either.

Well a cracking first half of rugby from the Rico where Wasps are hosting Clermont Auvergne (also being shown on CH4 UK, so available on Expat TV etc.). 34 points scored in the first 40 minutes and looking for more of the same in the second half!!

Ospreys vs Newcastle next up (for me) followed by short rollicking from the LHG, followed by Dragons vs Northampton (both of which also on S4C UK), followed by slightly intense b*ll*cking from the LHG..... Ho hum, the things I must suffer as a rugby fan.... AND in my defense, Bob the Dog can't be @rsed going for a walk (yet)!

Selgwent, who is not a forum member, has started a rugby pool for the Rainbow Cup and some on here have probably already been invited to join in. It's an open pool and anyone can join, and anyone can invite others. Below are the details if interested.

I don't know how we're going to chit chat about results unless we do it on here. There is a "banter" section on the pool site that can be used as well, but not sure how many actually check it and use it.

 Here are the details.

Pro14 Rainbow Cup - The Pro14 Rainbow Cup (also known as the Guinness Pro14 Rainbow Cup for sponsorship reasons) is an upcoming professional rugby union end-of-season cup competition.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pro14_Rainbow_Cup

Note: I'm not really sure how it's all going to work as it appears that the South African teams are only playing South African teams. If there is going to be quarters/semi/finals it's not yet indicated on the pool, although the Wiki article indicates there will be.

The "Rainbow Cup"....... The Celtic League/Pro 14 of old, minus a couple of SA teams, with another few joining. All about money and sponsorship and quite frankly a year early with all the Covid-19 fall out.

I didn't think many from the HHF would be interested, so didn't set anything up, although I have joined as has Dai_L who takes part in many of the HHF leagues (although is not a member of the forum).

If others on the forum take part, it's quite easy just to chat and post results on this thread - I'm happy to post details/results table if need be.

From recent Welsh regional results, I'm not expecting great things from God's own, but......

As for Dee-tee-I-my-arse, well  Enough said...... :neener:

And some new laws on trial too, it seems.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/56763899
Teams in the inaugural Rainbow Cup will be able to replace players who are sent off [after 20 mins] under trial laws being brought in for the tournament.

Captains will be allowed one challenge per game to review try-scoring and foul play up to the 75th minute.
In the last five minutes a captain can challenge any decision, provided he has not made a previous challenge.
Interesting, a lot of pressure on captains. I think I'd try to save my challenge for the last 5 mins.

In addition, when attackers are held up over the try-line, the defending team will drop out from their goal-line.
The rule will also apply to in-goal knock-ons and when defenders ground the ball from attacking kicks.
Hmm, an advantage to the defending team for holding up a try attempt, but a disadvantage otherwise, I'd say.

Under existing laws, attacking teams are awarded a scrum five metres from the opposition try-line when they are held up.

When a player is sent off, his team will be down to 14 men for 20 minutes before he can be replaced by another player.
Losing a player is a serious disadvantage in rugby, and more players are being sent off as tackling rules are being strengthened. This will soften the impact of an early red card.

The three experimental laws have already been used in New Zealand's Super Rugby Aotearoa and the Australian version of the competition.

As it says they've been trying it in NZ this season. There's been little noticeable difference, and I haven't seen one successful captain's challenge as of yet. I've seen no red card 20 minute substitutions, and only two goal line drop outs.

Highlanders 35 Blues 29. Resurgent Highlanders, badly fading Blues.

1 red card at 66 minutes, so no time for the 20 minute replacement rule to come into play.

1 goal line drop out.

2 Captain's challenges, neither successful.

Note: What happened in the above match also per my understanding, if you turn and run into the try area with the ball and are then tackled, it's not a goal line drop out but a 5 meter scrum.

John Dawes has died at 80, another great has gone.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/56776411

One surprise, for me at least, was that he played for Wales (that's a little country in the UK for non-Brits) 22 times, but 19 times for the Lions. 19, that's amazing.

Hell of a player - though I thought Willy John McBride had the most British & Irish Lions caps with 17? Anywho, Dawes had an incredible record - captained and coached Wales to a Grand Slam, captained the Lions to their only series win against NZ and regardless of the figure, won an incredible number of caps for the Lions..... R.I.P. Mr Dawes

I confess I was somewhat taken aback by this. I've had my staff do some background checks. Wiki gives 4 appearances for the Lions, but I suspect it was 4 tests, with a total of 19 games.

From Superbru....

Important Notice

Due to current travel restrictions between the UK and South Africa, the Rainbow Cup has had to switch to a dual-tournament format with no cross-hemisphere fixtures. The Round 1 fixtures you can see below are confirmed and will take place. We have marked the fixtures involving the South African teams as 'postponed' and moved them to Round 2 for the moment until new details are made official.
