36 Covid fatalities, 2,817 new cases

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -new-cases

Health authorities have reported 36 new Covid-19 fatalities and another 2,817 cases, bringing the totals to 1,213 deaths and 174,796 cases.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Saturday that 2,502 of the new infections were in the general population and 315 in prisons.

Although the death toll exceeded 1,200, authorities say the daily number of patients who had recovered, at 3,396, surpassed that of new cases for the first time in several weeks, said spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin.

Of the cumulative 174,796 cases since the start of the pandemic, 124,093 people had recovered. A total of 49,490 were still in hospitals, including 1,195 in critical condition and 361 on ventilators.

Dr Taweesilp said the 36 new deaths, 21 of whom were men, were aged between 24 and 92, or 68 on average.

Sixteen of them were in Bangkok, four in Samut Prakan, three in Nonthaburi, two each in Chon Buri, Nakhon Sawan and Samut Sakhon, and one each in Phetchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Tak, Ayutthaya, Phatthalung, Ratchaburi and Songkhla.

The main underlying conditions among them were high blood pressure (19), heart disease (9), diabetes (7), high cholesterol (7) and others.

Most of them had contracted the disease from infected family members and visits to outbreak areas.

There were 58 clusters of infections in Greater Bangkok. Among areas under maximum surveillance were Bang Kapi market, The Mall Bang Kapi, a construction workers’ camp on Ramkhamhaeng Soi 7, Makro Lat Phrao and Khlong Chan housing estate in Bang Kapi district, Klong Toey market, crowded communities and an Italian-Thai construction workers’ camp in Klong Toey.

New clusters were reported in five districts of Nong Chok, Lat Krabang, Pathumwan, Yannawa and Rat Burana, said Dr Taweesilp.

Bangkok logged the most cases at 925, followed by Pathum Thani (411), Samut Sakhon (293), Samut Prakan (143), Phetchabui (130), Nonthaburi (78), Trang (52), Ayutthaya (49), Chon Buri (40) and Songkhla (38).

Of the 2,817 new infections, 2,446 were local infections. The 56 imported cases were arrivals from Cambodia (46), Israel (1), South Africa (2), Bangladesh(1), Brazil (1), Bahrain (1), the Netherlands (2), India (1) and Malaysia (1). They were a South African national, a Brazilian, two Dutch nationals, one Malaysian and 51 Thais. Eighteen of the Thais had entered the country from Cambodia via natural border crossings in Sa Kaeo province.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 416,773 in 24 hours to 173 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 10,237 to 3.72 million. The United States had the most cases at 34.19 million, up 16,925. India was second with 28.69 million cases, up 121,476. Thailand ranked 80th.

HHTel wrote: Fri Jun 04, 2021 5:31 pm There are various clinical trials ongoing or about to start on various drugs including Invermectin. It's expected that no conclusion will be reached for 6 months or so. I will of course accept the outcome.

However, in the meantime, until there is any real evidence, it is highly recommended NOT to take it. Some studies have revealed serious side effects including death. Yes, there have been adverse reactions, including death, potentially relating to current Covid vaccines. These come from tens of millions of cases whereas the adverse results for Invermectin are from small studies. That alone should raise alarm bells.

Anyway, have a nice day. Mooooo!
I'm not aware of any studies showing deaths from ivermectin involving just a small number of participants. If there are any, I'd be genuinely interested to see them.

The paper mentioned above that involved 2 deaths, was an analysis within specific parameters. It looked at deaths linked to ivermectin that were not associated with the known risk of using ivermectin for onchocerciasis (river blindness) when the patient had a concomitant infection with loiasis (eye worm disease).

Anyway, the paper says it is based on:
All reports for ivermectin received into VigiBase up to November 27, 2016
As it also says, VigiBase, which started recording data in 1976, comprises reports:
from national pharmacovigilance centers in the 125 countries participating in the WHO Program for International Drug Monitoring.
So the two deaths it talks about (along with 28 serious adverse neurological events) comes from almost the entire 30-year history of ivermectin use for the whole world, during which over 3 billion doses have been administered. As mentioned though, it does exclude deaths in patients suffering from both onchocerciasis and loiasis at the same time.

Now, a previous study in the DRC did find 55 deaths over a period of 15 years, and with 15.5 million doses given, linked to the onchocerciasis/loiasis issue. However, it's worth noting that this interaction is now well known and so ivermectin is no longer recommended for the treatment of onchocerciasis in patients who are co-infected with loiasis.

Once again, I have to point out that many different studies and the official WHO guidance on its use, all point to the exceptionally good safety profile of ivermectin when used according to the proper recommendations and precautions.

No write up today. The Bangkok Post re-published their Saturday report instead of today's. :banghead:

Invermectin:

While some anecdotal data shows promising signs there are hundreds of reports from respected medical sources warning of it's use. It has been used in the past to treat malaria with some success but there were deaths reported which were suggested to be caused by invermectin.

Using google, you can get arguments from both sides depending upon what you search for. Until there is any real evidence, I'll take onboard all the warnings about using it. HCQ initially showed promise but that didn't play out in controlled studies. When there is sufficient data, a fact based conclusion will appear.

The majority of medial sources advise against it's use. I'll go along with those.
