As a youngster I was well into snooker - there was a center in the local town with a multitude of 12 x 6, 6 x 3 and "special" 8 x 4 tables. Us "youngsters couldn't play on the 12 x 6 tables without an "adult", so my old man was dragged out now and again to "play & pay"!

A huge memory for me (and I'm sure many others) was the fact that when watching the World Championship Snooker Final around my grandfather's house, it was interrupted to show the SAS storming the Iranian Embassy in London..... Snooker was never so exciting again!!

Finding Jack Charlton is the definitive portrait of an extraordinary man; an English World Cup winning legend, who became an Irish hero.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10607676/? ... _sr_srsg_0

Really worth a watch, funny and poignant.
What a character! But I found much of it difficult to watch as my mother suffered from dementia for the last few years of her life.

Love him or loathe him you can't ignore him and his triumphs. A top notch documentary.

Here are 4 docs. that are probably worth a watch. I used to enjoy the odd Panorama prog.

Panorama
Are You Scared Yet, Human?
From Amazon’s Alexa to improvements in cancer care, artificial intelligence is changing our world. But today leading tech figures from Silicon Valley worry about the future that’s being created. Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, believes George Orwell's 1984 could become reality by 2024. Panorama has uncovered new evidence of AI being used by police in China to recognise the emotions of detainees in order to help determine guilt or innocence. China has vowed to become the world's AI superpower by 2030, sparking a new arms race with America. Both countries are pouring billions into cutting-edge military tech, including autonomous weapons. AI could usher in a golden age, but without urgent regulation, experts warn we could lose control of artificial intelligence, a prospect, they say, that should scare us all.

Panorama
Princess Diana, Martin Bashir and the BBC

Panorama
Drugs, Cops and Lockdown
For the past year Panorama has been filming with Kent police as they try to disrupt the ‘county lines’ that transport millions of pounds of drugs from London to towns across their county. With an estimated 1,000 county lines operating across the UK, criminals have increasingly turned to children and the vulnerable to carry out the risky job of distributing drugs. Despite months of lockdown, the illegal trade in class A drugs has flourished. Panorama films drug deals openly taking place on the streets, with police involved in a game of cat and mouse to pick off the street dealers while building the intelligence and evidence to go after those that supply them.

Panorama
The Virus vs the Vaccine
With the country locked down again in the battle against coronavirus, Panorama reporter Clive Myrie asks what it will take to get through this latest, deadly stage of the pandemic. Hospitals are under pressure, with many said to be at breaking point. Once again, we’re being told to ‘stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives’. With schools shut and most exams cancelled, Panorama assesses the impact on young people’s mental health. The arrival of a vaccine offers hope, but its rollout is now in a race with a new, highly contagious strain of the virus.

I must have missed this one - Our Planet - currently running on Netflix. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9253866/

David Attenborough at his usual best in this nature series. Some of the stats about how much we've fcuked up the planet are disheartening though.

Best viewed in full HD.

Breaking Boundaries - The Science of Our Planet

This one is a really scary look into how much we've fcuked up the planet. Attenborough again and scientist Johan Rockström who has spent his life studying the potential biosphere collapse.

https://www.netflix.com/sg/title/81336476

They do offer some light at the end of the tunnel with suggestions on what individuals can do (switch to more renewable energy, eat less meat/more plants, use less plastic, recycle/reuse more) but unless something can be done about industrial-scale overfishing, deforestation for palm oil/soy, destruction of nature for more housing, and plastic pollution, etc. we're all toast.

Another one I'm really enjoying is Q: Into The Storm from HBO.
Q: Into the Storm charts a labyrinthine journey to uncover the inner workings of Qanon, a massive online conspiracy movement led by the anonymous figure "Q." In order to discover Q's true identity, the filmmaker embeds in a dark underworld populated by trolls, political operatives, and QAnon's most prominent figures. Attention turns to the reclusive team behind 8chan, the site on which Q posts cryptic messages, where a rivalry brews between Jim and Ron Watkins - the secretive father/son duo who own and operate 8chan - and its young founder, Fred Brennan. After a series of mass shootings are linked to his website, Fred goes on a warpath to end 8chan, and Q, at any cost.
IMDB

Enough red herrings to fill a swimming pool as to the ID of Q. I think it's GF :naughty:

This isn't an attack on the American people, it's big pharma. Man, you guys live in one fckued up country. This documentary truly shocked me, some of the facts and figures are mind blowing, and the ease at which the representatives of the people are bribed by these companies is staggering :cuss:

The Crime of the Century (2021): Official Trailer | HBO

Big Pharma sold America a lie and made a killing.

The Crime of the Century, an HBO original documentary from Alex Gibney, exposes the billions of dollars gained and thousands of lives lost due to the opioid crisis
