One dose of AstraZeneca “highly effective” against different variants, study shows
A single dose of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine provides “highly effective protection” against severe illness caused by Beta and Delta strains, the company said Thursday, citing real-world Canadian data.

In a press release, the company released results of a study by the Canadian Immunization Research Network, attesting that one dose of the vaccine was 82 per cent and 87 per cent effective against hospitalization or death caused by the Beta and the Delta variants, respectively.

The study also shows that the vaccine was 90 per cent effective against hospitalization or death caused by the Alpha variant, first identified in the United Kingdom.

“With different variants threatening to disrupt our route out of the pandemic, this real-world evidence shows that Vaxzevria, along with other vaccines used in Canada, provides a high level of protection against the most serious forms of the disease, even after just one shot,” said Mene Pangalos, Executive Vice President of BioPharmaceuticals R&D.

Vaxzevria is the official name for AstraZeneca’s Covid vaccine. They said that the new results were only obtained from one dose, so two doses would likely increase its efficiency more.

I've just been checking my record, and it was telling me I should have attended today because I wasn't vaccinated last week. Have any of you checked your entries? What did they say please?

Have you checked in mo Phrom? Either the app or the LINE version.
Just checked it. It is inviting me to have my first jab (for the 3rd time) on 9th August :?

My problem is, I don't even know where to go to query their wonderful Thai IT systems. Wandering aimlessly around a hospital these days is not the safest of moves. I just fear turning up on the 23rd August for my 2nd jab, and the computer says, "No."

Don't they still have the registration desk out front of the hospital? Maybe take your piece of paper there and they may be able to fix it.

Didn't you get a piece of paper similar to the one below stating your next appointment?
If not your best bet is to go on the 9th and try to sort it out at the hospital where they should have records of your vaccination

Yes, I've got my piece of paper, and it quite clearly shows I've been vaccinated and gives the date of next appointment. However, because of previous experience of Thais and computers, I get paranoid. Even if it is blatantly obvious that the correct answer is "Yes," if the computer says "No," it means No.

I don't want to be part of the 9th Aug' cattle market unnecessarily. I'll just take a pair of my son's boxing gloves with me on the 23rd, and be prepared for a fight. I'll take a Thai with me as my wingman.

I remember the good old days - if you had a problem, it could be resolved with a simple phone call :? These days, every man and his dog has a phone, but nobody takes phone calls.

As above. You could just go to the desk at the front of the hospital. They can check on their computer.

The desk at the front of the hospital? Can you be a bit more specific please? I'm fairly conversant with the layout of the hospital, but wouldn't have a clue which desk or where it is located. Do they just deal with vaccine?

I got the same message saying I was scheduled to get vaccinated on August 3rd. I ignored it, because it was obviously wrong but today I noticed that it's been updated and the message now says that I'm due to get the vaccination on the 9th of August.

However when I check in the Mor Phrom app it tells me (correctly) that my second dose is due 23rd August, same as the paper they gave me after my first jab.

Tried calling the hospital a couple of times but the line was busy.

To make it even more confusing if I check the list of names and queue numbers that accompanies the latest announcement, my name and number are not there. The numbers immediately before and after mine are there, but mine is missing.

So I have 3 different sets of info, all telling me slightly different things, with two of them being diametrically opposed.

Thank you GroveHillWanderer, that is reassuring. I will put it down to (as I do most things) Thai IT.

Not wanting to point fingers, but it’s not always the fault of the IT system, sometimes it’s the operator!!

I had my jab at Cha Am Hospital on Monday along with my wife. We had both booked together and had been notified that our jabs were confirmed, but when we got to the hospital they had a board with lists of names on it - foreigners were in English and understandably Thais were in Thai. My wife’s name was on the list, but mine wasn’t, but in true Thai fashion - “Mai pan rai” so my name was added and I queued with everybody else.

My name is also missing from that list, along with a few others I know. I can see that they did not want to put a list of numbers of the people who did not turn up, but instead put up a block of numbers, ie instead of Nos . 1, 3, 6, 7 ,10 its easier to say 1 - 10.
