Officials expect 400,000+ Covid-19 infections from free ATK plan

The Chinese-made Lepu Medical Technology antigen test kits at the centre of a controversial importing deal are now scheduled to be distributed free across Thailand from September 16. Health officials are anticipating a spike of several hundred thousand new Covid-19 cases as a result of ATK distribution.

The National Health Security Office expects that as a result of the influx of free and easy testing, many undetected cases will be uncovered. They predict about 5% to 10% of those who take the test will be diagnosed with Covid-19. If that turns out to be true, the 8.5 million ATK results would see between 425,000 and 850,000 Covid-19 infections.

The NHSO points out though that they expect about 80% of those infected – 340,000 to 680,000 – will be asymptomatic, leaving about 85,000 to 170,000 symptomatic Covid-19 infections. They expect that with proper treatment, the death toll will not be nearly as jarring as the high infection numbers.

But will they be included in the daily figures? They're not now so I guess they'll be ignored.

NEXT 2 WEEKS ‘CRUCIAL’ IN LOCKDOWN LIFTING DECISIONS
The question of whether to lift or reimpose coronavirus restrictions in Bangkok would depend on the situations in the next two weeks, a health official said.

Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration senior advisor Udom Kachintorn said any further relaxing of restrictions will only be made if officials are certain that the outbreak is well under control.

Thailand logged approximately 12,000 new infections on Monday. The daily infection number has been decreasing in recent days, but so has the number of daily tests conducted.

But Udom said the downward trend is the result of the lockdown measures introduced back in July, and more vaccination coverage.

In order to keep the infections in manageable range, Udom urged members of the public not to let their guard down.

The Public Health Ministry also launched the official “Digital Health Pass” on Monday. All residents in Thailand are encouraged to download the pass from the government’s Mor Prom application.

The pass includes a person’s proof of vaccination, details of their most recent coronavirus test, and their antibody readings, if available.

This key information will be used by businesses and services to verify the safety status of the pass holder. Some Airlines, like Bangkok Airways, Lion Air, Nok Air, Thai AirAsia, and Thai Smile are already accepting the health pass, according to media reports.

Soon restaurants, salons, gyms, spas and more may adopt them to verify their customers as the government is pushing ahead with its plans to reopen some provinces for tourism by Oct. 1.

The lockdowns have made no difference whatsoever as the big infection numbers have come from factories and prisons.

You know what will happen with 70 million people trying to use the same app at the same time ... "website not found, please try later", or as in my case "no data found".

I thought they had warned us to expect a spike towards the end of September because they had eased restrictions before they were ready to go live with the Vaccine Certificate, meaning unprotected people could currently eat.

Testing down, 6k ATK positives not seemingly included in stats, yet the lower figure of 12k new cases is the result of lockdown. Who'd have thought it?

If you can easily find that Total positive cases (ATK/Antigen) = xxxx number daily, please post it up until such time the traditional stat sources begin to include it, which may be never?

The problem is that if the Antigen tests become full cases, they will be counted again, when confirmed.

there is a policy to check the Antigen test Kit to help because it will allow you to know the results quickly. Therefore, ATK is encouraged. If the result is positive, consider doing Home Isolation.

But in some cases, it can't be treated at home. May need to be treated in the community or hospital, etc. This group must be confirmed by doing RT-PCR, which we call a Probable case or a group suspected to be or the group is probably But it may not be because the Antigen test Kit is a preliminary quick test.

Therefore, we will separate into 2 groups: the group suspected to be sick, which is Probable case, the other group that requires RT-PCR and the positive result is called Confirm case or COVID-19 patients.
It looks, if I read it right, that the antigen test only needs to be confirmed if the individual is sick. Otherwise it's home isolation. So it gets split into 'confirmed cases' and reported in the daily stats or 'probable cases' which are not reported.

I guess that because the numbers are expected to be high, they will slim down the confirmed cases by ignoring those that are not sick. i.e. Asymptomatic.
