First time I've noticed over 10k ATK positives. I wonder how many are with symptoms. Are these tests carried out by official testers or does it include home tests that are then reported? Even if only 20% are accurate that's another 2000+ cases.

I believe it's a bad number which is why I put "To Confirm" on the spreadsheet. I think they simply transposed the "walk-in" number. I'll correct when all clarified, probably with tomorrow's spreadsheet.

Note: Anyone have a different source for that ATK Test number please let me know. Thanks

I think the vast majority of the ATK testing goes on at home, office, factory, school done by the individual.

The most recent article I can find is July where they did ATK tests on 50,000 Thais and 10% were infected. They then went back and did the normal lab test. There was only a 3% discrepancy between the two. The article doesn't say if the 3% was up, down or mixed.

Edit: A side note, one of the demands by the Gov. for my daughter's International School to reopen is that there will be random periodic ATK testing of staff, students and visitors. I don't know what the quantity will be, or how frequently.

Cases from ATK were considered to be high and rising from the off:
Officials expect 400,000+ Covid-19 infections from free ATK plan

The Chinese-made Lepu Medical Technology antigen test kits at the centre of a controversial importing deal are now scheduled to be distributed free across Thailand from September 16. Health officials are anticipating a spike of several hundred thousand new Covid-19 cases as a result of ATK distribution.

The National Health Security Office expects that as a result of the influx of free and easy testing, many undetected cases will be uncovered. They predict about 5% to 10% of those who take the test will be diagnosed with Covid-19. If that turns out to be true, the 8.5 million ATK results would see between 425,000 and 850,000 Covid-19 infections.

However, I'd agree with Pete in that it does appear to be a mistake. Walk-in test cases being exactly the same as ATK cases.

Oh yeah... Wish they'd check these things before disseminating fake news. Image

Note: The 10,055 ATK testing yesterday seems to be correct, or they deducted any error from today's total to reflect the correct grand total.

Brief has been slow coming today. I've at last found it in this format (summary followed by the brief), which I think might be better. I will try to continue using this format, but no promises.

1. Vaccination Progress

– Yesterday, Thailand administered 688,481 doses of vaccines, increasing the accumulated number of vaccinations to over 60 million doses (60,228,105 doses).

– 14 provinces, namely, Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Nakhon Nayok, Phang Nga, Phuket, Ranong, Phetchaburi, and Rayong have reached the target Thailand set to inoculate 50 per cent of the population in every province by the end of October.

– On the goal of inoculating 70 per cent of elderly population in every province, 8 provinces have inoculated more than 70 per cent of their elderly population, namely Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Phang Nga, Phuket, Ranong and Surat Thani.

2. The number of new confirmed cases today is 10,035 cases. There are currently 110,265 active cases with 10,590 new recoveries, and 60 new fatalities. The accumulated number of fatalities is 17,751 or 1.03 percent.

3. Recap of the Thai briefing by Dr. Apisamai Srirangsan

3.1 Global:

– The global trend of newly infected cases is continuously going downward.

In Asia, while the trend in Myanmar is remaining stable, most of Thailand’s neighboring countries are now seeing lower numbers in new cases.

3.2 Thailand:

– Overall, most provinces in Thailand is now experiencing the downward trend, with Bangkok Metropolitan Area doing well in reducing the number of newly infected cases, as well as 67 other provinces. Anyhow, for the provinces in the southern provinces, the number is going up slowly. So, governemnt agencies are now exerting more efforts to curb this trend.

– Data shows that 60 per cent of death toll since April did not receive any vaccine, while 19 per cent of that got one dose of vaccine, and people who received full 2 doses made up less than 1 per cent of the statistic.

3.3 Other:

– The CCSA today reviewed development in the past two weeks and discussed further on the relaxation of current measures. Such matter will be discussed again at the General CCSA on Thursday, 14 October 2021—which will be chaired by the Prime Minister of Thailand.

4. The Crossroad

– As mentioned last week, we were at a crossroad where our strong will and endeavors may flatten the curve.

– Hence, it is important to strictly implement all the recommended safety measures, including 1) vaccine coverage 2) universal prevention 3) active testing using the ATKs and 4) COVID-free Setting, to realize our reopening plans. In short, never let our guard down.

5. World Mental Health Day

– Yesterday (10 October) was World Mental Health Day – an international day for mental health education and awareness.

– The COVID-19 pandemic has become a big part of our lives and had an impact on people’s mental health globally, including children. Therefore, it is important for us all to take a break and keep your mental health in check.

– If you feel stressed, you may find talking to someone you trust helpful. If you see your friends struggling, please offer them help. By all means, do seek help from a professional should you find you need it.

The PM addressed the nation at 8:30pm.

The Prime Minister has announced the re-opening of Thailand on 1st November starting with 10 low risk countries. Fully vaccinated tourists from these countries can enter without having to do quarantine but they must have RT-PCR test results.

Second time I've seen a reference to Covid-free setting today (4 above). I guess that's something like football matches (where vax certs are required) but not shopping malls, markets and public transit (except air travel)?
