Yes, I'm sure it is intended that it will happen. It was originally planned for Sept 1, and then Oct 1. Personally, I don't think Thailand's vaccine roll-out is advanced enough to consider it fully just yet. Fortunately, common sense has prevailed so far.

I watched the PM's announcement, and apart from having to prevent myself from chucking things at him, I couldn't think what was so revelatory that needed a special broadcast? After all, it's been all the news for weeks. So I guess that means an election and if things don't go to plan, another coup!

I think the difference is that he has said "without quarantine". That's different from the published 'sandbox' plan.

Regardless of vaccine status - I don't think tourists from those countries will be flocking back with curfew/state of emergency/bar/alcohol bans still in force and the majority of places still shuttered or heavily restricted. Thailand has to open fully and offer some incentives if it wants the winter crowds to return.

This is something we've debated a couple of times already. Do today's ATK tests become tomorrow's statistics when confirmed by a proper test?

Yes, IMO. Not perhaps tomorrow but once they are confirmed in a lab. I would think each day's ATK numbers could spread over a week or more of firm positive test numbers. An ongoing process.

Yes, I don't disagree with that, but the Thai Rural Doctors claim can be misleading. Firstly it refers to the worst ever day for reported ATK results, and anything confirmed has probably been reported since in what is a gradually reducing trend. However, on the other side, how many are identifying Covid on ATK tests, and treating it themselves without going for a full test i.e. it is a fact most people recover anyway?

The press opting for shock and awe again, as opposed to reporting facts.

I just regard the daily stats as fiction now, regardless. They ain't testing and that's why the numbers are down, which has been engineered to help with the re-opening.

Exactamundo. It all gets filed under "ignore" for me also, as do most stats spewed by the regime. They've been manipulated since day one.

What should they be testing? I keep reading that they aren't testing, but I never hear where they are failing. I am genuinely interested in where they are falling down. An honest question - I don't think I have Covid, but maybe I have (2 football matches and the cinema in a week). Should I be presenting myself for a test? Exactly who should be getting tested please? I am not seeing any guidance.

Stats show less than 1 in a 1000 are now tested. That was the initial reason for Thailand being on the UK's red list. This has been widely reported. Even the BP carried an article by two Thai academics basically saying this is a recipe for disaster. But that's saved on my laptop. I am in Bkk right now (just had 2nd AZ jab), using my tablet. Even when they were testing, the BMA would only test the 1st 75 of any construction site or factory they visited, irrespective of the numbers employed. That was widely reported as well.

I haven't actually looked at stats for quite a while now, but yes Thailand's test stats are pretty low (37th lowest in Asia out of 49 countries). Regarding the testing of the first 75, wasn't that a daily limit, with them returning the next and subsequent days? BTW, I don't know the answer, but that was my assumption.

I also see the likes of the UK have gone to the other extreme with every person having been tested an average of 4.5 times.

Looking at the UK with 4x as many new cases daily (I've only looked at yesterday), I have to question what additional testing achieves? It bumps your infection numbers up, but doesn't seem to be eradicating the virus.

Agreed, Thailand's testing is very low, but throwing money at a lot more testing doesn't seem to be achieving very much.
