Re: Binthabat/karaoke Areas
Last night was a rare night out for me at a bar. I was with overseas visitors who had heard about the Binthablock district. I told them not to expect too much, but we'd take 20 minutes off our drinking spree, and went for a wander around Binthablock.
Some of the restaurants that had been dead when I walked around in March were actually quite busy, but the writing was on the wall as we got to Binthabat, Tina's, the big bar on the corner was boarded up and without any soul. However, we could hear music. Not the eardrum shattering music that keeps me well away from Binthablock, but music being played at reasonable levels. I guess there were half a dozen or so bars that were giving re-opening a go. It was nice to be reassured that I hadn't lost any of my good looks during Covid, in fact it was confirmed several times how handsome I actually was . In fact, our walking party must have been like nectar from the Gods, because we were all so damned handsome. Even though a couple bars were open, trade looked very slow.
We went past the bar that has been advertising double vaccinated guests only. We were, of course, invited in. I saw no notice about needing double vaccination, but we didn't try to enter. This was purely a reconnaissance mission.
El Murphy's looked so sad as we wandered past. We turned left towards Poonsuk, and still the same story, A couple of flickers of normality, I was still handsome, but very little happening.
In summary, I think the next 2 weeks will be do or die for Binthablock. A couple of bars are doing their best, but I fear it is too little too late. I guess knowing what it used to be like, what I saw last night was very depressing. Personally, I think the area is on it's knees, and the end is nigh, but I'll be happy if proved wrong. Over the years, I've had some epic nights on Binthabat. I don't think the good old days will return.

Re: Binthabat/karaoke Areas
Very sad indeed - my first visit to HH was in 2002 and in those days Bintabaht and the surrounding area was almost the only place to enjoy an evening drinking and some company. With the nearby developments (demolishments) taking place, it would be no surprise to see the whole area boarded up - RIP!!

More bars will reopen, but will not be as in the pre covid time. Long live Soi 80
Re: Binthabat/karaoke Areas
Of course, more will re-open, but I'm not so sure it will be in the Binthablock areas.europtimiste wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 1:38 pm More bars will reopen, but will not be as in the pre covid time. Long live Soi 80
I've seen many town centres go the same way in the UK. Regeneration nearly always happens, but not necessarily in the same place.

And yet they still want to charge premium prices on drinks making it the most expensive drinking area in HH!Big Boy wrote:Last night was a rare night out for me at a bar. My standard tipple there is 100 baht but its 70 baht in soi 94 but that's where all the people/girls are now by far. It's not even a debate!
What are they smoking down on Bintablock? The drinks should be at a discount to 94/80/102/112 etc. to encourage people to make that extra journey into town, park car, extra grab fee etc. Noone lives there, and the atmosphere is like a ghost town!
And they've all got substantial discounts on their rent because if they hadn't they simply wouldn't be open(ie paying full whack)
I spoke to a employee of a very popular bar there and raised the question of lowering drinks prices in order to compete with Wonderland etc. I was told that the Boss refused to do this!
Absolutely no sympathy, people will rightly vote with their feet!

I agree with most of what you say. However, not ALL of the girls are on 94. There were a few very attractive young ladies (with very few customers) down Binthablock last night, and it was clear that each had 20/20 vision (handsome man ). If only I were a few days younger

Re: Binthabat/karaoke Areas
I didn't mean ALL in the literal sense, merely a way of expressing that Wonderland/Le Pub & opposite /Rock Zone/other bars on 94 have substantially more customers than BB(Bintablock, not you!) and yet prices are cheaper. Hopefully they stay that way.Big Boy wrote:I agree with most of what you say. However, not ALL of the girls are on 94. Ps don't forget, you went to BB on a Sat night. More girls available to work. Be interesting to compare on Mon Tues or Wed
Pps the opening of the new Sugar Sugar nightclub in Wonderland will be a further death knell to BB

Re: Binthabat/karaoke Areas
At Binta most bars prices are 70,80 or if special drinks more. Some charge for a beer and a Sang Som Soda more. I avoid those bars, Boycott.thecolonel wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 2:37 pmAnd yet they still want to charge premium prices on drinks making it the most expensive drinking area in HH!Big Boy wrote:Last night was a rare night out for me at a bar. Re: Binthabat/karaoke Areas
Breaking news.... the whole of Wonderland is in complete darkness tonight!
A 'reliable source' informs me the authorities are 'awaiting further information' from the operators/bar owners!!
I think we all know what that means!

Not today they haven't - I just driven past twice, and it looks as though it's been shut down. Total darkness.Wonderland have substantially more customers than BB(Bintablock, not you!)
No way am I agreeing with the restrictions on alcohol sales, but giving SHA+ restaurant accreditation to straw umbrellas was pushing it a bit.

Re: Binthabat/karaoke Areas
the word is they are waiting for the out of town police to go and will the reopen,
get the feeling , the out of town police might be more persistent over the next couple of weeks,
two bars were raided at 3am on saturday morning on 102,
