Live Music News -- Sasi Band has a new home

Post by dahobbit »

The Duke's Restaurant, at the beach on Soi 51 just North of downtown, has hired the band that used to play at Sasi Bar Bar.

4-piece combo (sax, guitar, bass, drums) doing mainly instrumental contemporary jazz, funk, and a sprinkling of everthing. Definitely a break from the standard classic rock/pop/Thai country fomulas, and they can *play*. Special guests will be sitting in as well.

6 nights a week, Tuesday through Sunday, from 6 to 10 pm. If you like live music of quality, come on down!

Doesnt sound like it, dahobbit mentions nothing about the restaurant.
Only been once and it was disappointing. Maybe try again and see what the band is like.

we've always had decent scoff at Dukes, though others tell a different story.

Best if the band plays outside, then you can eat in Coco's and still hear them.

[Kraka's Dad] "You connected with this restaurant by any chance?"

Not connected to the restaurant, but I sit in on piano a couple nights a week, just for fun.

Baabaa, went to Coco 51 a couple of times last week, prices reasonable. First time had 2 g&t, water, bottle of wine, two starters, steamed rice, curry veg, salad and beef and pork dishes(all thai- and very good) for 2300 baht.

Second visit 4 people price 3500 included 4 drinks, wine ,water, 4 mixed thai appetizers, 2 steaks, lasagna , beef stroganoff and two desserts. Again good food and good service. :thumb:

I'm fine Sarge. It was a pleasure to meet you, how are you doing? Have you got a date for the treatment yet? If you keep enjoying the delights of the sweet shop you will ruin you figure and Mrs Sarge will have you on a diet.

p.s. the pool team lost in great style!!

Take care Sam.

Can we get :offtopic: , please? This thread is about music, there is already one about Sarge & his healthy eating programme

Been to Coco 51 several times but never went to Dukes as there is never any one in there...it will take more than a band to get customers in ...must be something wrong with the food..or the ambiance...maybe someone can enlighten me as to why the place is always empty ?

Have to say we used to be 3 or 4 nights a week in Cocos with customers. However about 6 months ago the English chef al;ong with a number of others left. Food quality droped considerably so what did they do they put the prices up 25%.

We still go occassionally as it does have a great Ambience.

As regards the band in Dukes as a previous poster said you can sit in Cocos and listen to them.
