Tropical Ear Wax

Post by PeteC »

Another cutting edge subject, but important to us here.

Cotton buds (known in the west a Q-Tips) only aggrevate the problem.

Swimming helps but most times it just stays in there and hardens again.

I have a friend where the problem got so bad he went to a doctor who removed something that looked like a wine cork from his ear. Presto, chango...he can hear again also.

I also found out that Thai doctors do not like farang ears. Thai ear canals are straight, right into the ear drum. Alas, our's are not and curve inward toward the skull. Thus the problems we seem to have with the subject, and the problems the Thai docs have digging the junk out.

Any home remedies welcome, boiled chilli water, leaches, sensuous young women with long tongues, blasting caps, loud music? Pete

You can do, like my brother-in-law in S.pore does, let your little finger nail grow a couple of cm's and start to dig in.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Yep, my friends in HK and China have the same, except they seem to be partial to the nose rather than the ear. Pete

ears

Post by redzonerocker »

stick nothing in your ear smaller than your little finger ( so the experts told me).
i have had a lifetime of ear problems apparently due to an accident when i was young & having extremely hairy ear canals!!
cotton buds etc only push the wax further in to your ear canal. olive oil, preferably warm, is the best remedy to loosen the wax before letting a doctor remove it properly.
its a very sensitive area & if you get an infection,it will be extremely painful. i know this from experience :(

Speaking of toe nails............... :D

Nah, not really!

For the ears, try getting hold of Otex ear drops, clears the wax without the need to visit a quack.

Have to say, Pete, its a strange old topic!

My dad had a perforated ear drum as a result of an industrial accident. Before it was operated on and fixed, he could hold his nose, blow and audibly whistle from his ear!

It was a bit of a 'one liner' as a party trick, as he couldn't play any tunes - just a low constant whistle but least it was clear of wax!

I can waggle my ears and partially dislocate my right shoulder - does anyone else have any interesting physical abilities that they can utilise as a party trick?

:D

You COULD try singing God Save The Queen, whilst standing on your head drinking a Chang and farting at the same time!
:lach:

Should be a good party piece

I have to say honestly that is was/is a small attempt on my part to inject some humor and diversion into what was otherwise a very sad day for many of the local HH members because of the passing of DJ Gee. Plus, also possibly obtaining some helpful information.

If it made only one of them smile and forget their grief for a moment, I achieved my goal. Pete

Seeing as I spend my working life surrounded by large jet engines I leave the stuff in there as anything that knocks the decibel level down is a bonus. We have an old Russian IL-76 here this morning that is actually banned from here because it is so noisy, the only way the crafty sods got to land was by declaring an emergency.

Tropical Ear Wax solution

Post by Pundi64 »

Get a babies ear bulb, a rubber bulb, for use with a baby's ear washing. Purchased at most any pharmacy.
Room temerpature water, mild hand soap in water, then fill ear bulb, and tilt head, flush out each ear as needed, you'll be surprised what comes out into the basin.
Then I use Q-tip with rubbing alcohol on it and very gently wipe inside the ear, not too deeply.

Gotta ask - in the name of scientific research - if the crap's all displayed in all its glory, for all the world to see, in the bottom of a basin, why do you need to go and root around in the ear again? :?

How did you learn to do that? :)

Is it sensual?

I tried ear candling the other day and they showed me the amount of wax it removed, personally i dont believe it and think teh wax was already in the candle thing ( like a fire work) but it was very enjoyable and the face / head massage was very relaxing ( no happy ending it was a bloke!!)

My mother used to tell me "nothing smaller than your elbow" in your ear!

I have a Doctor friend in Australia, who used to run a clinic in a port city specializing in treating visiting seamen. He told me of a case where a Taiwanese seamen, having finished his meal, was attempting to clean out his ear with a chopstick. The ship suddenly rolled violently and the chopstick pierced his eardrum. Very lucky he was not killed by it.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
