Well, we'll see how it goes - I just want to see Red BS and Crahappen fairly taken down by a peg or two!!

Will also be very interesting to see how Russell and Norris perform - more so Russell being in the Mercedes. Could he scupper LH's title quest by taking points off him I wonder? I can't see Crashappen being under pressure from his teammate.

And the likes of Ferrari shouldn't be dismissed (well, at least not yet)......

Some more from the Guardian UK relating to Mercedes' design changes: -

"Mercedes have firmly rejected suggestions their new car for the Formula One season features any illegal components. Responding to reported comments from Red Bull, the Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, said their innovative sidepod design unveiled in Bahrain was within the new regulations.

When Lewis Hamilton took to the track for the final test this week, his Mercedes was radically different from the one at the first test in Barcelona. They have used the side impact structures as fins and mirror mounts and in so doing have dramatically decreased the size of their sidepods. The intent is to improve airflow and increase downforce. The design has the potential to give Mercedes a major pace advantage going into the new season, which begins in Bahrain on 20 March.

On Thursday morning, Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport reported that Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, had already called the car’s legality into question. “From our point of view, Mercedes went a step too far,” he said. “That doesn’t correspond to the spirit of the regulations. For us, these wings are illegal.”

In a surprising twist Red Bull quickly and strenuously denied Horner had made any comments about the Mercedes. Nonetheless, Wolff responded by noting that although they were the only team to have adopted such a radical approach, their car had been designed in full consultation with F1’s governing body, the FIA, which had confirmed it was within the regulations during development.

“When you go down a specific development direction, the FIA scrutinises it and you make them a part of the process,” he said. “We were keen in not running alone, but being in touch with the FIA, that is why I think it will be OK. It is clear that when you come with an innovation it creates the kind of debate that we are having here. That was expected.”

Given there are new rules of governance this year, it is possible the design could become outlawed should enough teams believe it confers an unfair advantage."

That said, 8 of the 10 teams would need to agree to the rule change - Mercedes also provide engines to both McLaren and Williams, would they really vote against them? I would assume that if it did come to a vote, the 8 out of 10 majority wouldn't come to pass.

For me, if the design innovations are legal and from what I've read they seem to be, fair play to Mercedes for once again setting a standard! :thumb:

I truly hope this is a season for racing and not a farce (or farcical ending)!!

Full season of series 4 Netflix's Drive to Survive dropped on the usual torrent sites. A unique behind the scenes on a unique last season.

Let's hope Covid is not going to cause too many issues this season....

"Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel has been ruled out of Sunday's season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Aston Martin driver will be replaced by Nico Hulkenberg.

McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo missed the final test in Bahrain last week after contracting coronavirus.

But the Australian is fit for race weekend, which begins with practice on Friday, after returning a negative test."

As for this weekend, we kick off with the Bahrain GP: -

Practice 1 beginning 15:00 (local) / 12:00 (UK) / 19:00 (Thai), Practice 2 beginning 18:00 (local) / 15:00 (UK) / 22:00 (Thai) - Friday 18/03.
Practice 3 beginning 15:00 (local) / 12:00 (UK) / 19:00 (Thai) - Saturday 19/03.

Qualifying 1 beginning 18:00 (local) / 15:00 (UK) / 22:00 (Thai) - Saturday 19/03.
Qualifying 2 beginning 18:00 (local) / 15:00 (UK) / 22:00 (Thai) - Saturday 19/03.
Qualifying 3 beginning 20:00 (local) / 17:00 (UK) / 24:00 (Thai) - Sunday 20/03.

RACE DAY - Sunday 20/03: - 18:00 (local) / 22:00 (Thai) - Sunday 20/03.

Broadcast by Sky Sports, but available through usual streaming, the likes of: -

Cricfree.tv
buffstreams.tv

And others I suspect.

Practice sessions don't normally show a great deal, BUT, Friday's session seemed to show a few things!

Red BS and Ferrari showing great speed and it honestly looks like the BS team have more (unfortunately).
Mercedes are off the pace and LH suffering more so with his set up. Going for front line speed, they're suffering more-so with "Porpoising" than others IMHO - perhaps their aerodynamics have backfired on them....?

Early, early days of course, but Crashappen and co. must be confident - Ferrari also.... Will be interesting to see what qualifying brings!!

I watched parts of it, but missed what caused the parts flying off that led to a red flag?

AND, I seriously hope that gabbling "Chunda", is not going to be a race commentator!

Mercedes way off the pace and have a great deal of work to do and quickly, if this season is over literally before it's begun...

Pre-qualifying favorites Crashappen and Red BS taken down a peg by Ferrari, with Leclerc an impressive 0.123 seconds quicker. Ferrari certainly seem to have got things right for this season :thumb:

Wow, what a race! Shame to see Mercedes struggling by their standards, but good to see Ferrari back in the race and hilarious to see Red Bull fall apart in the last few laps!

George Russell may not have picked the best time to start his stint as a Merc driver, while Bottas timed his departure perfectly! :thumb:

Absolutely!! Cracking last few laps with the mouthy Dutchman and henchman falling away. LH showing how good a driver he is however with a car that (at the moment) is struggling. Mercedes may not be that far away after all...

Red BS seem to have some mechanical problems, so we'll see what happens there. Their engine may be good enough for qualifying, but........

Great to see Ferrari back to their best, but thought McLaren would do better. Hoping to see Merc sort out "Porpoising" issues then they can bring in the engine power....

Anywho, let's look at the HHF-F1 Prediction League: -

I'm sure things will go against Mercedes and for Red BS in future races, but this weekend was great!! Superb for the "Scuderia" :thumb:

Apologies, but I'm quite happy on that score. TBH far better racing and far more excitement.... We'll see what happens in later races, but not a bad start!!
