Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
I'm due to travel to the U.S. next week and I see there is a requirement for a PCR taken within 24hrs of travel.
Does anyone know if it's possible to get the rapid PCR in Hua Hin?
GN.

I'm not sure how rapid you mean, but I think BeWell (Banyan Golf) would be your best bet - I think they offer same day if you're there before a certain time.

Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
Thanks B.B. The Mrs. did mention Banyan this morning... was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.
My flight will likely be in the evening so a P.C.R. test on the same day would be required.

My daughter flew to the US a few weeks ago.
San Paolo does it with around a 1 hour wait. Cost around 500 baht.
She's used them twice this year with no problems.

Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
Thanks HHtel, Mrs. GN. just called San Paolo and they advised a 24hr turn-around. Possibly just the operator not knowing ar*e from elbow but BeWell looking the best option so far and close to us in Takiab. A quick call confirmed they are still operating a same-day service although I could be on the bus to BKK by the time I receive the results....
Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
It's not a full PCR test that's required. Just a 'Rapid' test. Your wife was probably being quoted for a full PCR test.
I should expand on that. A Rapid Antigen Test is acceptable which is different to a PCR test, which of course is also acceptable but more expensive.

Let's not get confused.

It doesn't have to be a PCR test. You must be tested with a viral test that could be either an antigen test

Yep. That's the one.Covid-19 Antigen Rapid Test
What does this test detect? This is a qualitative test for the detection of SARS CoV-2 Antigens. It will tell you whether you have an active virus infection.
Many domestic and international destinations and airlines now accept this antigen test but please check carefully right before you depart since regulations tend to change.
How is the test done? Nasal Swab
Turnaround Time: Results are back within 45 minutes + you will receive a medical certificate.

I'm permanently confused these days when it comes to travelling and I am a frequent flier.

Re: Flying to/from Thailand, latest updates
I think we confuse ourselves and each other. But back to the test for the US. The US site clearly states that an antigen test is accepted. This has been the case since last year. My daughter has used this approach twice this year and her partner once at the end of last year when returning to the US.
Everyone automatically thinks "PCR TEST" which does take longer and is much more expensive but in this case it's only the 'cheapy' that's required.
