Colon Cancer
Just been diagnosed with large colon cancer at my local hospital. Did a CT scan so it’s pretty certain.
I do not have a great deal of confidence in the general surgeon offered I would prefer a colorectal surgeon that has some experience.
Does any one have advice of on a decent hospital that specialises in this condition that will not break the bank.
I expect it will be in Bangkok.

Re: Colon Cancer
I recommend Chualalongkorn hospital. It is a teaching hospital associated with the university of the same name. Then train o lot of the colorectal surgeons in Thailand including those working at most of the large private hospitals.
I’m presenting in Chula’s private ward undergoing chemo #11 of 12. I guess which doctor you get is a crap shoot but I have three and all seem good.

Abbynormal
Thanks for the information.
I guess after surgery that I will be going down the same chemo path.
Not whishing to pry but can you share some details of costs.
My diagnosis came as a great shock and still coming to terms with it.
My best wishes to you. It takes some strength to help others when you are not operating at 100%.

Re: Colon Cancer
I can recomend Pra Mongkutklao Hospital, in Bangkok just by the Victory Monument. It is a large teaching hospital run by the Thai Army with specialists in all medical departments. I have been accompanying my wife who has been receiving Lung Cancer treatment there for the last 6 months. The level of expertise is good and the costs are a quarter of that of Private Hospitals. They do treat foreigners but it is best to take a Thai person with you to navigate language & beaurocracy. The Hospital is very busy so long queques but is very well organised. Inside the Hospital is al airconditioned so the waits are quite comfortable.
My wife is being treated with targeted therapy drugs which is keeping the Cancer at bay and cuts out the need so far for Chemo.
Feel free to pm me if you want any more information.
Good luck

Pra Mongkutklao Hospital sounds a lot like Chula. Big but well organized.it’s a big help to have a Thai speaker with you.
As far as cost go, I think the rectum removal was 313000 baht. I had to have a CT at about 20,000 and a colostomy. Can’t remember the cost but about the same asHH Hospital. The chemo ( foxflo 4,5 or6 ) is a 12 week program at about 20,000 per pop. There is also a blood test plus a Covid test at about 680 and 800 per. The Covid test is for you and your helper who is with you 24/7.
After #12 you have another CT consultation with your doctors.
The operation is in the brand new 30+ story building while the Covid test and are cross campus in a newly renovated 14 story building. They are private rooms with bathrooms, tv and WiFi.

Re: Colon Cancer
Should have said it is 12 shot program over 24 weeks.
Also the Crown Plaza hotel gives discounts for patients. It is right across the street from the out patient clinic.

Re: Colon Cancer
Again Abbynormal thanks. When you price the chemo at 20,000 a pop is this the total price or each session.

Re: Colon Cancer
Each session. Also, the 313000 is for full removal of the rectum. If they can do it with the scope it is much cheaper.
The chemo can be done at Ratchaburi hospital which maybe cheaper. The doctor wasn’t too keen on HH Hospital.

You can go online, input the name of the hospital, and request an estimate.fellwalker wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 6:29 pm Colon cancer, due to start chemotherapy any recommendations.
