What are the wives doing now...? do they work or not? do they want to have an occupation, or are you "retiring", and the issue is what the women should do with the time on their hands while you are playing golf?

I live part-time in HH and am a farang female. My work as a consultant permits on-line activities, and they can partly be done anytime and anywhere, and I also get to enjoy the weather and gorgeous culture during my 4-8 weeks stays here. I don't play golf (yet), there is simply no time for the moment.
IF I would choose to move permanently to HH (and perhaps semi-retire) I could think of quite a few things to "do", teaching, painting or similar artisitc activities, engaging in charity-work, writing books and articles, take up studying again..etc etc. It all depends how much you want to do, what your need for activity is, and your expectations in life. It also depends to what extent you really want to integrate into the local community. Some people want to learn the language and meet and work with the locals, others are perfectly happy only mingling with other farangs or even only people from their own country. We are all different.
Your wife could take a look at the blog on www.expatentrepreneurs.com, or www.expatwomen.com ...these are just some ideas...

Just a thought but quite a few retired Western couples seem to use up quite fair amount of time organising their divorce after the husband gets tempted by the local attractions!!!

Why not divorce her now and go to Thailand on your own? Or buy a UBC package and sit her in front of the telly while you play golf and flirt with the natives? Who's idea was it to retire to Thailand? Yours, hers or a joint decision? Sorry, but your OP doesn't add up. Controversy for controversies sake or trying to make a point with a question?

I am not divorced and do not fit into the Western couple catagory. Just passing comment on observations.

From what I can see, the above quote fits most of the posters who have answered the OP. Apart from elem & myself, none are Western women, either.

Can we please keep the thread relevant & only add anything if you :

a) are a Western woman
b) are in a relationship with a Western woman and have a viewpoint based on that
c) have something valid to add rather than buying into stereotypes

Please?

Thank you Dawn for trying to bring it back under control and to Elem for her contribution.
I guess it was a bit of an open question, but it has also started a dialogue on the subject between my wife and myself, so all to the good.
A bit of background would probably have helped, my wife is 9 years younger than me so we have a retirement problem straight away, she works full time as a Practice Manager for a very large Surgery which leaves very little time for leisure pursuits, she plays darts, most card games, is a bloody good shot with a skeet gun and can drink a pint faster than me.hardly leisure but there you are.
Since discussions started I have learnt that she would like to learn to play golf and would like to work in a charity capacity probably animal or medical.
In retrospect I think that my question should have been directed at what was available for women to do in Hua Hin rather than what can women do.
I realise that entertainment for men has the required "infrastructure", it was the ladies I was concerned with.
Thanks for the comment Norseman definately a Pint next time I visit.
Anyway thanks to all contributors.

For starters from that description, there is a darts' league that would welcome her contribution I'm sure, and if she's interested in animal charities, I'm always looking for volunteers to help out (as frequently or infrequently as she would like). She can pm me if she has specific questions or email me info@dogrescuecenter.org

Of course everything depends upon budget. The main reason for my coming to Thailand was that it was a very good base for travel. It is ideal for visiting many of the surrounding areas while has many stunning sites of its own. Is of course can involve the other activities enjoyed by women such as eating out, bars and beaches.

I have never known a woman who does not like travel yet.

John:

You have clearly stated that your wife can down a pint quicker than you and that she would like to play golf. Witrh the drinking and the golfing and the homemaking you aint gonna have time to worry about what to do in your leisure time.

No problems for you guys, you sound as though you will fit in well in HH,

Look forward to a beer with you upon your arrival,

There is one other thing that has not been mentioned on this thread, the expat single men here generally hold farrang married women in quite high esteam and will go out of there way to make them feel at home here.
