Yes, we often find frogs in our dog's drinking bowls as well, but never any tadpoles - OK, the bowls are cleaned regularly, but we've never seen frog spawn in either the dog's bowls or the lake either. We see so many frogs, I have often looked. Funny you mention lettuce leaves, the lake is full of that underwater lettuce look alike plant at the moment as well.

I would say, based on yesterday, the Green Gunge is covering about 6x more surface area. It actually looks quite impressive, and would make a great football pitch

I've never seen it this bad/good before. If it's to feed the tadpoles, I can only predict a plague of frogs of biblical proportion very soon

You never know when they'll metamorphose here. It all depends upon the water and air temperature once they're tadpoles.

As mentioned yesterday, mine in 50 gallon water pots out of the sun 80% take 2 months to become frogs. If the pots were in full sun probably a month.

These creatures regulate themselves depending upon their environment.

If not enough algae and/or leafy lettuce type stuff, they eat each other! :alien:

Your local lake monitor lizards will feast on them as well during this hatching season.

And I thought I'd eaten too much over Christmas  . Those tadpoles have really been pigging out. Here we are, just 6 days later. Still a fair bit of gunk shore side, but the virtual football pitch that was there just 6 days ago has well and truly gone. Amazing nature (and very fat tadpoles, which I still haven't seen).

I've noticed quite a drop in water levels at the lake over the last few days. Although I saw the lake as a mud bed during a recent drought, this is by far the lowest I've seen it since my daily walks began.

A week or so ago, we noticed quite a team of Tessebahn workers sandbagging the wall between the 2 waterfalls in the corner of the lake. I'm wondering if that wall has developed a sizeable leak, and the lake is slowly draining,

When it was dry what do you estimate the depth is?

It isn't more than about 5' deep in most places. There are water pipes going across the lake, and when there is a problem, the workmen walk to the affected part. I can only guess they are feeling the pipe with their toes. There is usually a support boat in attendance as well.

Is that lake the major source of Hua Hin tap water? Meaning...they top that up from other sources but the output is all for city water.

I would imagine it goes through some small kind of treatment/chlorine introduction process on its way to the neighborhoods.

I don't think it supplies Hua Hin at all. In fact, I'm not sure it supplies water to anywhere. At the Southern end of the lake there is a small water plant, but I think that is fed from Pranburi water, and any excess goes into the lake. It is from the small water plant that pipes go out under the lake to supply Khao Tao.

The lake was created as a Royal Project, with the intention of giving locals a food supply in the form of fish, etc. I did research the lake a few years back, and I seem to remember it was also to ensure the local people had access to water, but I think that element has been superseded by the water plant, which is above lake level and fed from somewhere else.

No, water does not come from the Lake.

https://www.huahintoday.com/local-news/ ... o-hua-hin/

At present the Hua Hin Municipality receives 90% of its untreated water from Pranburi Dam. Apart from the supply increase from the Phetchaburi Dam, the additional supply will allow for a more stable supply when repairs are needed to the existing pipeline to avoid the issues of disruption to the water supply and power outages.

I believe the reservoir by the fly-over is fed from Pranburi. When it gets low water flows in from a pipeline. I'm guessing so I may be wrong.
