Current options available to order now, and if just local, hard to pass up the Neta V, as 200k cheaper than MG:

I wasn't aware of the Neta V but it's incredibly cheap for what it is, I'll have a look when I'm out there in a couple of weeks.

I can’t imagine it’s the most dynamic car to drive, but at that price it deserves a close look.

I seem to spend my whole time driving in Hua Hin stuck behind an elderly lady on a sidecar Somtam stall so performance isn't really much of an issue.

Dynamic isn’t (specifically) about performance, but the driving experience in total - so providing you’re (that’s not you specifically Steve) not expecting luxury motoring for such a modest price, it’s well worth considering!!

This is more than enough torque (instant) to knock around town with.

I've read some reviews of the Neta V and an interesting point comes out in that it's judged the best car that you can buy in Thailand for that price of any type, internal combustion included.
That means that with present subsidies and tax breaks, Chinese made EVs are now cheaper in Thailand than the equivalent IC models available.
I think that they'll be able to sell cars like that to middle income Thais as fast as they can import them.

Your Thai partners should be able to find out, but there are a couple of court cases going on here, involving the new Chinese models - Havel, MG and BYD apparantly all operate the same way - but it is to do with the cost of repair, even under warranty and insurance. Where the costs are so high that insurance or even warranty won't cover even the costs of minor damage. They are focussing on one particular dealer / garage, from Bkk I believe, but from what I have been told, it applies to all of them. This is just as it has been relayed to me.

To be honest, I've always been happy with cars in Thailand from the Japanese brands but it looks like my next vehicle will be Chinese because the Japanese have all failed to innovate vehicles suitable for the 21st century.

For those interested in a more sporty drive, there are several pretty powerful sports models coming out of China this year:

Thanks Steve. They all look great but unlikely to sell well within certain factions of the Trump world.

I imagine you'll be seeing plenty of them in Thailand soon.

I have a friend who bought the Neta V in bkk. I went inside 10 minutes. Seems a good car, very comfortable and enough powerful for city and expressway. Don't know for long trip or mountain roads. Quality and reliability seems ok.
