Obviously the writers of the article are comparing the new Volvo with Tesla’s model Y and yet there’s quite a difference in size, so I’m not sure it’s a completely relevant comparison?STEVE G wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 3:16 am Smaller, Faster, Cheaper: Volvo EX30 Might Be Tesla Model Y’s Fiercest Rival

I think they're referring to rival in sales, the Tesla Y is currently the best selling car worldwide.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 3:44 amObviously the writers of the article are comparing the new Volvo with Tesla’s model Y and yet there’s quite a difference in size, so I’m not sure it’s a completely relevant comparison?STEVE G wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 3:16 am Smaller, Faster, Cheaper: Volvo EX30 Might Be Tesla Model Y’s Fiercest Rival

The 4wd 400hp version sounds interesting if it's affordable.

A fairly realistic looking outlook for the introduction of solid state batteries, confirming what has long been said about the end of this decade before we see the mass implementation.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
No matter how often EV enthusiasts post nonsense on here there’s still no getting away from the fact that the vehicles are poor value for money, range-limited and unreliable. Most of us think they’re crap.

Horsepower Now Means Nothing
As electric cars continue to break records, mind-boggling torque ratings will rule the roads instead of horsepower fueled by gasoline.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
I think you should speak for yourself and let others voice their own opinions.
There’s no doubt that (some) EV’s are far from perfect, but year on year they’re getting better and by the end of the decade, there’s mounting evidence that solid state battery EV’s should be readily available, offering extended range and at (hopefully) reasonable prices. There’s also plenty of evidence that many are just as reliable as ICE cars - the difference between the best and worst ICE car is considerable and EV’s are little different.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
They will become popular with the masses when the prices drop, recharging facilities are improved and the new ss batteries really work as claimed. So yes, still a few years away.

My son has just acquired through his company, a Polestar 2 EV and whilst the power outputs are nothing special, the acceleration between say 30-50 is really quick - a Tesla Dual Motor must be sensational.STEVE G wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2023 10:32 pm Horsepower Now Means Nothing

As for performance, Lucid have a new model that they claim will out accelerate a Formula 1 car up to 80mph and that's for a four door saloon car!

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread
In the UK, the Kia Niro is one of a few cars that is available in Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and full EV options.
The attached article and video shows the difference in purchase price and running costs in two very different scenarios. Although the overall cost depends on whether the EV car can be 100% charged at home, but if not it works out at significantly more expensive that the other two options. This highlights that there is still a lot of work to be done before EV’s become competitive with ICE cars - of course other countries like Thailand might produce different results, but still a bit of an eye-opener that EV’s are not necessarily the cheapest option where “identical” cars are available.
