An Unplanned Few Days Just North of Cha-Am - Photo Report
Re: An Unplanned Few Days Just North of Cha-Am - Photo Report
We made it to Hua Tan for lunch and was impressed, it was a good find BB, I'm surprised I've never heard of it before.

That's 2 of us, yet many of us will have been within half a mile of it many times before.

Shrimp cakes, yummy! If good. Look forward to visiting this restaurant myself. From where I live, I normally head south, so it will make a change.

I didn't eat there i.e. I very rarely eat at lunchtimes, but I was very impressed at what they served my wife. The prepared mussels looked very special, and the prices were astoundingly cheap. Only one criticism, and that was the rice. It was so bad my wife asked me for an opinion, so I tried a little on the end of a spoon - my comment at the time was it was stale, more like 3 day old rice. However, the rest of the food was superb, and the plentiful helpings meant rice wasn't essential.

All the food we had was very good and particularly so considering the prices, I've paid half as much again for the same in Cha Am.
We sat pretty much in the middle of all those salas and someone came over with a menu but I don't know exactly where the food came from, there might be more than one restaurant.

Yes, my wife's food came from 2 different directions.

We finally went to The Anglers Rest for dinner tonight. There were three of us and the decision was to eat Thai food and it was all very nice - not exceptional but on a par with a lot of other restaurants. Two things that put it out from the crowd, is the setting - it really is very special and the service was also excellent, although when your paying 50-60% more than your average Thai restaurant it needs to be.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 4:57 pm I think my eye was drawn to the price of the Indian food, and the Sunday lunch which looked higher than the popular restaurants in HH, but the reviews are very complimentary so it could be justified? We don’t eat out that often but I’m sure I’ll give this place a try as it isn’t too far for us being close to Cha Am.
It’s not the sort of place that I’d go to on a frequent basis, but we’ll definitely go again before Christmas and already thinking that we’ll try their Indian food next time to see how it compares to the traditional Indian restaurants like Shiva.
Would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting a meal out in a special setting.
Mods, if this needs moving to the food section please do so.

I don't think we speculated why all those buildings in Part 1 (completed and in progress) were abandoned. It was either the recession of 2008, or the big monetary crash of the mid-90's. I would put my bet on the mid-90's disaster for those in complete derelict condition, and 2008 for the completed but now abandoned better looking buildings. Eventually some company is going to buy up the better places and try again.

I would guess it was primarily the mid-90s disaster. I first went that way in the early noughties, and there have always been a lot of unoccupied buildings. I think the area was in decline ever since, and Covid finished what was left.
