Thai passport renewal ... 10 years?
Re: Thai passport renewal ... 10 years?
Since we're doing this here, USA Bangkok ditto. EMS old passport, photos(s) to them....Applications all on-line, 10 year renewal and old passport EMS back to you. They say 6-8 weeks, our experience is 10 days or less.

Same same
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

Just to complete the renewal process of my wife’s 10 year passport, it’s just been delivered so only 2 days from application to receipt - fantastic service!!

I do not think they are very rushed!!Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 3:43 pm Just to complete the renewal process of my wife’s 10 year passport, it’s just been delivered so only 2 days from application to receipt - fantastic service!!

Whether they’re busy or not is immaterial in most respects - getting a new passport processed and delivered to your door within two days is nothing short of excellent - many of us (myself included) are quick to criticise Thai inefficiency, so it’s only fair to praise them when they do the opposite.PET wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:09 amI do not think they are very rushed!!Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 3:43 pm Just to complete the renewal process of my wife’s 10 year passport, it’s just been delivered so only 2 days from application to receipt - fantastic service!!

My wife's passport had to be renewed this week, and we just had exactly the same prompt service that Dannie Boy had. It was not a one off!
Re: Thai passport renewal ... 10 years?
It's not a one off anywhere apparently. Wife and daughter have renewed theirs twice in Pattaya and the experience was the same as described above. It seems they have implemented a well thought out and organized system country wide.

One thing that isn't so good or efficient about renewing Thai passports is when it is for "children" which the government stipulates is up until the age of 20. BOTH parents have to be physically present at the passport office to renew even though they are considered as adults in the rest of the world when over the age of 18.

Although google agrees with you it's obviously no enforced. My daughter's kids have Thai passports. Only my daughter was present (the father vanished some time ago)
Re: Thai passport renewal ... 10 years?
It was certainly a huge problem with renewal in the UK when the father was living in Thailand. I must have known at least 6 father declared as dead to get around it. I've also known others demand huge compensation fees for their signature.
With my step-daughter, we had to send everything to Thailand, her father had to sign (I think it had to be done at the local Tessebahn or similar for authenticity), and it was all sent back to us.

It has been when we've tried ... more inconsistencies in the land of inconsistency.
Right ... someone always seems to get all the cream off the cake, I'd be happy with a fraction of it!

Disappearing Thai fathers is as common as stripes on a Zebra. There must be a special clause to cover that occurrence.
