Full list of Thai TV channels showing the event:

·
The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, or Paris 2024, will take place on Friday evening in France. According to Thailand time, it will be broadcast live from 00:25 AM to 4:00 AM on Saturday, July 27, on the following TV channels: TrueID Sports 1, 7 HD, PPTV HD36, and T Sports 7, AIS PLAY Olympic 1.
Instead of a traditional march into a stadium, about 6,800 athletes will parade on more than 90 boats on the Seine River for 6 kilometers (3.7 miles). This will start the ceremony, not mark the end of it, another break from tradition.

Unfortunate that it seems to be pouring rain at times. :(

Not just the weather that is poor sadly PeteC. Perhaps I was just expecting too much.

[EDIT] Given up on the LIVE version and will watch highlights tomorrow...

I've tried watching some of the highlights, but still.... Not a patch on 2012 (excusing obvious bias), or quite frankly any others in recent memory. Things just seemed to be all over the place and the "Floating Teams" were hardly exciting. I didn't even recognise "Lady Gaga", but that's me showing my age - it was bizarre to say the least and no doubt extremely expensive. Fans blamed the rain for the poor singing, but Gene Kelly managed it well didn't he? :duck:

The LHG was working late tonight, but wants to watch the highlights (only I hope) tomorrow - so I guess I'll have to sit through things to the end, which I haven't managed yet.

Disappointed it has to be said... :(

I didn't see it but it's been described in one paper as 'bizarre'. Papa Smurf made an appearance, is he French? Surely for France Asterix would have been nice, although I see the nation as more Olive Oyl.

BB, for newcomers to the form (and for me ) please remind me what LHG is short for? LMG is light machine gun, but ...

When I was a kid in a small Pennsylvania town, there was a group of old timers who sat outside the barber shop daily and complained about everything, even the birds flying by! I'm reminded of that.

The event was a monumental undertaking, made even more difficult by driving rain. There were low points, like some kind of freak show on a catwalk somewhere that popped in and out of the coverage. The boat parade was made more entertaining by the various performances going on along the river bank.

Viewers who don't get to Paris often, or at all, in their lives saw just about every famous landmark without a tourist in sight. Tell me the last time anyone was able to see or do that?

To compare last night to any other opening ceremony is apples and oranges. There's never been another like it, and the athletes seemed to really enjoy the boat experience. Most of it, not all, was worth watching and I applaud the organizers.

My thoughts as well. They would have something negative to say even if JC himself appeared. All the UK papers were mainly positive except for, yes you guessed correctly, the good 'ole Daily Racist AKA Daily Mail. "LE FIASCO" headline. :banghead: :duck:

Although I wasn’t really interested in watching the ceremony, the following clip makes it look pretty good!!

I don't think there was anything really original in there, but put it all together, I agree, it looks pretty good.

Sounds about right. Most of us are advancing in years. We need something to moan about to make us happy :lach:

Oh OK, maybe I was a tad harsh - it was just all a tad strange and I wasn't exactly riveted... Lady Gaga who I didn't even recognise was especially strange.

Yes, a huge undertaking and praise should be given there for sure.

I shall now pop down to the barbers for short back and sides - and a quiet morning's moan... :D

One thing that amazed me was the robotic horse and rider coming down the river for a long distance, on some kind of powered board skimming the surface. I haven't researched if that board was self propelled, or if it was being towed by a lead boat that was out of the camera shots. It was moving at a good clip. Very original and unique.
