I think you’re being a bit harsh d-m, ok it’s about winning, but if I trained my socks off and came second by a whisker, I’d still be proud of my achievement albeit not being the best in the world, just second best!!

Damn you DM... Harsh but true though. :(

Harsh schmarsh, Pietro! This is the new, outraged, intolerant and dismissive D-M! You've heard of fat shaming? Well, I am starting a new humiliation campaign - bronze shaming! :guns:

So much for amateur. All Thai athletes have received a payment from the Gov't, and medalists will be paid for the next 20 years.

I read it. A one-off reward for winning doesn't make them professional athletes, and the monthly amount (if they don't decide to take the lumpsum upfront, which would be weird) is hardly a living wage! The same for non-winners, a prize of three thousand quid every four years isn't a lot.

Anyway, the Olympics these days is flooded with professional athletes, isn't it? :D

Additionally, the Thailand Olympic Committee will provide monthly stipends to the athletes for 20 years: 12,000 baht per month for gold medalists, 10,000 baht per month for silver medalists, and 8,000 baht per month for bronze medalists.
12,000฿/month for 20 years is 20 times more than most Thai pensioners receive each month.

Definition of stipend = a fixed regular sum paid as a salary or allowance.

Its more than many, if not most Thai workers earn in a month!
