National auto insurance company bankrupted

Post by buksida »

We had a phone call on Sunday stating that our vehicle was no longer covered as the insurance company had gone bankrupt. It was a nation wide company called Sumpun Prakun Thai with branches throughout the Kingdom.

The following day we went to the office to arrange cover with an alternative company called LMG. They had a number of outstanding claims that could not be paid out and it is unlikely we'll get a refund for the outstanding months on the policy although they said we would.

The reason stated for the closure was simple "bad economy", many people are now without insurance (thats those that bothered with it in the first place) so check your policies guys!

So you did, I should really read this site more!

I was quite surprised that they called Mrs Buksi (who holds the policy) and told her about it. They also promised a refund but I'm not holding my breath on that!

I bet there aren't any "insurance policies" to cover that eventuality.
Ie - a government fund that any and all insurers have to pay into, to recompense the policy holders.
