Referee David Coote Suspended with immediate effect

Post by Lost »

Referee David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending an investigation. This follows a video of him calling Jurgen Klopp a 'c*@t'. Coote was involved in a number of dodgy decisions against Liverpool.

How dumb do you have to be to be recorded saying this. The second clip is the icing, "Just to be clear, that fkin last video can't go anywhere." 🤣🤣🤣

"Liverpool are all fkin bellends, we hate scousers", his mate continues.

Man's never reffing a prem game again. What a stupid, stupid waste of a career.

Honestly, I'm gobsmacked. Yes, when you've had a few the safety net goes down a little, but christ!

Whole career. Ruined.

Imagine being his missus, right now. Salary and envisioned future in the pits.

"Alright, don't do anything stupid."

After reflection I'm beginning to feel a little sad for him. One moment of really (really, really) bad judgement.

It's a strange one. Do we know when the video was made. I read the other guy is a cricketer. Does anyone know him?

I am willing to bet that other refs will talk in a similar nature with people they know and trust, but never, I would have thought, in front of a camera.

When I used to go to referee society meetings, there was no shortage of discussing incidents on TV, and you would always hear tales of this, that and the other. Sometimes from guests invited to talk, managers, officials, that sort of thing. Some very prominent, albeit from a long time ago, and before the days of social media. They had some juicy stories to tell.

I don't sympathise at all. From what was said (talking about Covid in the past) I think it must have been made post-Covid.

And finally, this is not a couple of mates chatting in the pub, it looks very much like an organised interview. Why in God's name would you agree to that sort of Q&A session in the first place, then to it being filmed, and then expect it to go no further? Unbelievable!

This was not un unguarded moment of bad judgement, it was a few minutes of remarkable stupidity. He deserves everything that will be thrown at him, and I'll be astonished if he ever referees again at any level. No sympathy from me, and I doubt he'll get any from his (ex-) colleagues.

I don't think it's an arranged interview. It looks exactly as you said, a couple of mates chatting. I think the guy next to him is a friend. I'm trying to find where I read about him. The whole set up of the piece just looks like an informal chat. And the lighting, angle of the camera etc. might actually mean it was covertly recorded.

But why would they then say “don’t let the first video get leaked”?

IF all is as it seems... Exactly, drunken twat egged on by so-called mates(?), one or more who have now taken advantage (financial gain or just simply pissed off?). I don't believe it's AI, but hell - it's incredible (and very frightening) what can be achieved these days. After all, we're talking end of career, end of (whatever) reputation, huge threats no doubt to himself and family and God only knows what else. The power of the Press, Social Media and Cancel Culture knows no bounds, especially in this technological world of AI - the latter which should be used for our benefit is being abused and sums up our current world and attitude....

Apologies for the last bit... Can't seem to burn the Soapbox

Yes, you're right. Not covert and I doubt AI. He doesn't appear drunk either. I suspect it is as it seems. Amongst friends and those he trusts and no more. Then the next question is why release the vid, and why now if an old vid? Whatever, the damage is done.

I don't suppose it matters if he was right! Oops, ducks quickly, just kidding. But I suppose if you have just had to take a mouthful of abuse from such a revered soul of the Anfield faithful, who has a well earned reputation of playing to the crowd, and you basically have to stand there and suck it up, and Coote, from the evidence, was very stoic in doing so, maintaining eye contact throughout, then how you feel is going to come out sometime.

It's quite sad really.

His name is Ben Kitt he's a former Notts cricketer who now works in PR consulting(ironic!)

He's been suspended on full pay despite the fact that the video was allegedly shot prior to his employment
