The match statistics don’t make pleasant reading - Galatasary 27 shots to Spurs 5!!

Although I’m sure they’ll be some people sad that Gary Lineker has announced that he’s quitting the BBC at the end of the season, but I won’t be one of them. I wouldn’t go as far as as saying I detest the guy, but have never really understood what he brings to the “post match analysis” that others can’t do better at maybe half the price. Out of all the possible people mentioned as his potential replacement, my favourite would be Mark Chapman who IMO makes a much better job of the MOTD2 show.

It's very occasionally that I'll watch MOTD, mainly due to my utter dislike of Lineker and others on the show. I do watch just to keep up to date rather than watching a full match though!!Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 3:11 pm Although I’m sure they’ll be some people sad that Gary Lineker has announced that he’s quitting the BBC at the end of the season, but I won’t be one of them. Going back to topic: -
A) Why do many reports (and he himself) say he's "quitting"? As I understand it, the BBC are not renewing his contract for MOTD (thankfully) and therefore he may not have been sacked, but he's been binned. That said, he will still be there at the BBC in 2026 for World Cup coverage and still milking it!!

B) Bring in Gabby Logan, very knowledgeable no doubt, has been great during other shows (including Rugby) and is far, far better on the eye (apologies to those of the WOKE World).
Lineker is an outspoken twunt who thinks he is above any rule or regulation set by the BBC (or law in instances), who even now can't cut ties totally. He "reportedly" earns an absolute fortune (£1.5 million BASIC) whilst the Beeb make cutbacks by increasing License Fees, dropping allowances for pensioners like my dear old Mam and aside from a few exceptions, put out shitty shows or repeats. Sport has long gone to Pay-per-View, so where are those millions?
Suspect he'll be watching in the stands with Starmer before long with his savings and Pension protected though..... Aaarghhh!!

OK.... Fallen off the Soapbox, a tad bruised and apologetic

Anywho, not a fan of the guy - hope there's a clean out of similar overpaid presenters and so-called pundits. Who'd vote for a "Lost", "Caller", "DM", "BigBoy" Quartet?! Cheaper I'm sure, though DM would no doubt have "demands", "BigBoy" would want cheaper (natural) Chips, "Lost" and "Caller" may just have a scuffle over the Big Smoke Clubs, but hell - it would be interesting!!

Re: Football (not Premier League)
No need to have a scuffle. It's in the natural order of things that Chelsea look down on Spurs. They know their place.

Talk is cheap

Re: Football (not Premier League)
Wayne Rooney is finding it tough getting results at Plymouth, who were given a heavy beating by Norwich last night and according to this report, the 6-1 defeat could have been worse!!

Re: Football (not Premier League)
Yes, but not directly Rooney's fault. He can play the injury card. 5 of his top players were injured, and you can now add Morgan Whittaker to the sick & injured list.
I've said it already (and I understand many want Rooney to fail), if Plymouth are relegated, he will be the fall guy, but Plymouth aren't managed that way. No single person will get them either promoted or relegated. Rooney is a small cog in a much bigger wheel. There is no blame culture at Home Park. This philosophy has worked since they almost went out of existence. I don't know of another team in football run the same way as Plymouth.
The only sacking I remember in recent history was Southgate's apprentice, who thought he was better than the system - they soon got shot of him.

Re: Football (not Premier League)
The big wheel must have a mind of its own then because the small cog was far from happy with the “first team”, stating that the under 18’s would have put up more of a performance

Re: Football (not Premier League)
Didn't realise there were championship games on yesterday. I was busy watching City blow a three goal lead.
That's severely dented my ambitions of 'not bottom' in the prediction league.

Re: Football (not Premier League)
This was the official post-match reaction (maybe the funny accent, but I don't hear much about under 18s)
At the end of the day, they are only words. If he goes rogue, and tries to go it alone, I do not see him lasting very long. The under 18's and ladies teams have been having some good results, maybe they (not he) should be looking elsewhere.
We already know he has a Liverpool striker lined up for the transfer window.
I'm most definitely not trying to defend a crap result. It well deserves criticism - the second 5 goal deficit this season. How sorry do we feel for the 300 fans who made the 700 mile return trip, midweek to watch that shower. However, unless things have substantially changed, there will be no repercussions - they will take it on the chin, and move on.

Re: Football (not Premier League)
Do we have a Champions league thread?
What incentive is there for Liverpool to finish top of this round of matches?
Or is it just top 8 advance regardless of position?

If this turns out to be true, it goes against what BB was saying a couple of months ago!!
