Thai Will

Post by norm »

Has anyone made a Thai Will? I have a will for investments in Australia but now that I am buying a Condo and have a bank account here in Thailand, I understand that I should have a Thai Will for property owned here in Thailand.

Can anyone give any advice on how to go about making a will here?

Hello Norm. I have made a couple of Wills in Thailand, it is not difficult but you should have a lawyer draw it up. Mine state`s that it is just for property in Thailand, and that I have another in Australia.
You need to be careful about the lawyer you use, as there was one poster on here recently that was charged 25,000 BHT, and that is a plain rip off.

To be strictly legal it should be translated into Thai and both copies kept together. You should also appoint a trustee to administer it.

I had a couple drawn up last year one for myself and one for my girlfriend as she is holding land assets also. I got mine drawn up on Samui which cost me 10,000 baht. We used a lawer in Bkk for my girlfriends and they tryed to charge us 20,000 baht. I told them to get stuffed and got it down to 12,000. Don't pay anymore than that.

My "English lawyer friend" is doing mine at the golf club for a jug of chang!

PS. Before I upset anyone, the above statement is true.

I am currently getting a thai will drawn up. I am using the lawyer on the 3rd floor of the shopping mall, also has offices in Pranburi. He charges 10,000 baht for English and Thai will and seems to be very efficient. I have had to give him all sorts of information about the beneficiaries (sorry can't spell that!) and the details of house, car and banks also naming an executor.

He came to me recommended and I would recommend him too.

Thanks for the information ADW. I will look into having a will drawn up as soon as I get back form Australia. I know I should have had it done before I go, but there just isn't enough time as I am leaving on the 6th of August. Will only be gone for about a week or 10 days.

Looking forward to having our personal belongings shipped here. I don't know how we managed to fill a 20ft. container when we sold or gave away nearly everything we owned. It was just thoses "irreplacable" items that we kept.
