Yes at just over £20, it’s not that expensive- similar to a decent bottle of wine in Thailand.

Don't get me started on the price of wine here, and comparing things to UK prices is futile. We just did a little research to try and get the same product for half the price (which it usually is) but as we've found ... "mai mee".

Reading some reports on the situ where we're going is a bit scary (some Taiwanese actress died from it there a few weeks ago). Even though we'll avoid the cities, its not worth the risk not to have a jab beforehand though I've never had one. Do you feel shite after a flu jab? The covid shot knocked me around a bit, and the mrs was bedridden after it ... so we would need to pick the right day to it if so.

I suppose each person reacts differently, my husband and I felt fine after our jabs. Had it in Thailand in November 2023 and in France November 2024, no side effects. Having said that we also felt fine after all our COVID jabs.

I can't remember where, but I'm fairly sure flu killed 9 in Thailand last week.

In October last year I had a flu jab and Covid booster in the UK, both at the same time and no after effects, but of course some people do react to either?

As for comparing prices here to the UK, as far as I’m concerned that’s normal as it’s where I come from, so I always compare one with the other, to see which one is better.

That explains why they've run out of jabs here. :banghead:

The normal Flu jab time here is usually May/June, so by February, there is very little demand.

One thing to be aware of, is that the flu is usually most dangerous for infants, the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. The Taiwanese actress you mention for instance, although she was only 49, had a history of epilepsy and heart disease.

Another thing I discovered is that the main strain causing the outbreak in Japan (where this Taiwanese actress got sick) is Influenza B/Singapore which unfortunately is not in any of the current flu vaccines being offered, as far as the published information I can find.

They all contain the antigen for Influenza B/Victoria. So not ideal for this particular outbreak but as I mentioned before, there should still be some cross-immunity and there's no harm in getting the vaccine, especially as the other strains are still in circulation and there's no way of knowing which one you might contract - if you even catch any of them.

Good info. Yeah, the age of the Taiwanese actress struck me first, as she’s the same age as me!

The flu shot we've found contains four strains A/H1N1, A/H3N2, B/Victoria and the now-extinct B/Yamagata so Thailand is still using last year's (or even older) jabs.

As you say, there's no harm in getting it anyway and from what I think I've had this week (not sure if flu or not,) I really don't want that again while on the road.

Actually, according to a couple more articles I've found since, it appears the main strain causing the outbreak in Japan is Influenza A. It doesn't say which sub-strain but there are only two in circulation, H1N1 and H3N2 so the vaccine you've found would be a good choice.
Influenza A accounted for about 98 per cent of flu cases during the recent outbreak in Japan, followed by Influenza B. Barbie was said to have been down with Influenza A.
