I've been thinking the same thing myself. According to Google maps right now, if heading for central Bangkok there's only one minute's difference.Green Nomad wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 4:00 pm This is so bad now that I am considering using the alternative route via Nakhom Pathom. Has anyone also thought about it or even used that route? With the heavy traffic sometimes heading towards the Praew Pradang junction from Samut Sakhon I wonder on the time difference.

Did it just over a fortnight ago and doing it again on Thursday. It was absolutely fine. Maybe took about 15 minutes longer, but thats because using Rama 2 takes us straight into the area we stay, usually turning off at Port. Coming from Nakhon Pathom we had to turn off the 338(?) to get through Bkk,Green Nomad wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 4:00 pm This is so bad now that I am considering using the alternative route via Nakhom Pathom. But having just read the news about todays accident, and heading to Swampy to drop my sister & BIL off, definitely worth the detour and once on Rama9, that will take us across to Bkk to the airport in any case.

Personally, I don't like that road too much. Quite a few traffic lights, often down to 2 lanes wide, and a lot of slow moving, heavy traffic.

The poor guy above who was hit with the falling concrete has died. Only 46. Internal bleeding and ruptured liver. Maybe this will make them wake up ?! No, things will simply continue here. TIT.

Although it makes no difference at all to the outcome for this innocent driver, the report mentions it was concrete falling from an old flyover rather than the one under construction.
Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
That's just as worrying though, as there are lots of older constructions to pass along that road.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 11:19 am Although it makes no difference at all to the outcome for this innocent driver, the report mentions it was concrete falling from an old flyover rather than the one under construction.

In the UK, Australia or the US, I am sure construction work being carried like this would have traffic safely diverted for the very reason of safety, and being allowed to pass under overhead hazards. But, as we all know TIT. We have to take care of ourselves guys. Be careful out there.

Is it still an issue? Not cleaned up yet??

They have, every night - I've sat in the resultant chaos several times. Problem is they lift the restrictions too early every day.Green Nomad wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 12:43 pm In the UK, Australia or the US, I am sure construction work being carried like this would have traffic safely diverted for the very reason of safety, and being allowed to pass under overhead hazards. I travelled up to Bkk earlier, with the missus driving, taking my sister and her husband back to the airport. Out of concern for their safety, and their own concerns for their safety, we travelled via Nakhom Pathom. Might be because of the public holiday, but it was was a really easy drive, with no hassle whatsover. We left at about 11am. 2nd time on this route and both times have been good.

Trouble is, maybe a lot of people will get the same idea and start using this route and the result will be traffic jams.

Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
I find there's a traffic jam at every set of traffic lights. A lot of very heavy slow vehicles blocking the road, and pulling away at a snails pace. It always seems that as soon as I get clear of the traffic light congestion, another red light appears in front of me, and I have to do it all over again. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

That would increasingly frustrate me BB. I suppose it depends how often you need to make the journey.
Re: Traffic jams on Rama II Road blamed for Hua Hin's decline
Yes, but clearly it is not a constant - hence my unlucky comment. Either he has a lot more patience than me or caller drove through without the same experience as me. I will say that at night, the road is a breeze to travel on, but during the day, I just find it frustrating.
A lot of my football travel starts in Ratchaburi, so I'm quite regular along that road.

Yes, and I would hope less chance of a large chunk of concrete or a part of a crane landing in your lap while driving at 110kmh.
