I'm so football starved at the mo I nearly ventured over to watch the flop that is the club world cup yesterday. Empty stadiums, seats reduced to a few bucks. 10 nil mismatch wins. A misfire on all accounts by FIFA. Fortunately, I settled on the under 19 Germany/England game in the end. England were 5-1 down in the 48th minute. By the 63rd minute they'd levelled it to 5-5. :D

Ended in a draw.

Former Real Madrid and Wales star Gareth Bale is part of a US-based consortium's attempt to take over League One club Plymouth Argyle.

Talks with the private equity firm are said to be at an early stage.

Plymouth owner Simon Hallett said last month that a previous agreement to sell a stake in the club had fallen through...........

Or is it the fear that a Welshman could be part of a successful Plymouth Argyle? :neener:

No, I know sugar daddies work out sometimes, but I just fear what they think is in it for them - "Oh, I've got a few million quid to throw away - where can I throw it?"

After Plymouth's last venture down the Sugar Daddy route that almost finished them, I will never trust them.

They're all Sugar Daddies in one form or another!

As a supporter of an ever present Premier league team I'm just grateful that someone out there is prepared to put their capital at risk in a business that regularly loses tens of millions of pounds per season.

So God knows how risky a lower league club must be

All jokes aside, what do you guys take a "Sugar Daddy" to be? The £MILLIONS that has to be invested is ludicrous, simply due to the insane money that is Football!!

Who do you expect to run your teams, a great "down to earth guy" who has supported the club all his life? Can he afford the ludicrous salaries, the extended staff, the maintenance/upkeep and on and on?

The Teams need Multi-Millions even 2 or 3 divisions under the Premier League for God's sake! You need "Sugar Daddies" as unfortunately we do in Rugby (at the highest level)!!

I have absolutely no time for sugar daddies, unless they are genuinely looking for a hobby. IMHO there are shops selling fishing rods for those guys.

Plymouth doesn't even have a decent golf course - there must be another reason for Bale's take-over.

Hell's Teeth BB, surely that's completely the wrong way and I hope it's misspelt. A "Hobby" is completely wrong - regardless of weather it's Wendyball (sorry  ), Rugby or another sport.

There are some who just want the Limelight and (dare I say) Social Media content, there are others who simply throw their money at an issue and there are others who bring together some or all of those aspects. Look at the guys at Wrexham. Yep, Hollywood Stars, thrown millions into the club, Social Media, Disney+ etc, etc. BUT these guys (whilst obviously promoting themselves) have done wonders for the entire club and the CITY (yes it is) as a whole.

You can also look at Bath Rugby - I've supported them for 45 odd years through thick, thin, utter BS and now once again CHAMPIONS!!. Similarly, I have supported Llanelli/Scarlets for a few years more and matches between the two in the "Amateur Days" were a sight to see... Both have needed financial investment and Bath for one have been accused of the "Prima Donna" status over many years by the likes of Bristol.

At College I played for Bristol Youth and Keynsham and the hatred of Bath (I wasn't good enough to play for Bath youth)...and the Welsh funnily enough was quite something.

I simply wanted to play, but the whole "Tribal Hatred" is there in all sports - unfortunately more so in the Round Ball Game IMHO.

Sorry... Getting back to Topic :offtopic:

From what I’ve seen, most of the clubs that have received significant financial input from the “Sugar Daddies” run at a loss, certainly in the Premier League, more teams made a loss in 23-24 than made a profit

Pretty sure I've asked this question before, but how in Hell can the "Owners or Directors" of a Sports Club be any different from an "Industrial Company" for example? In my field (Engineering/Mining/Filtration), if the company was in debt/unable to pay suppliers - I'm looking for another job and the Directors are in Court.

Perhaps the smaller clubs with "Sugar Daddies" are simply looking for a way out with UK Tax issues....
