Don Muang Hotels

Post by Big Boy »

I have a friend arriving in Thailand on 8 Nov. He will be flying to Udon Thani on 9 Nov with his girlfriend for a few days before starting his holiday proper in Hua Hin a few days later.

Obviously, he will need to find accomodation in the Don Muang area for one night before travelling North. Like me, he doesn't really like Bangkok.

Can anybody recommend any reasonably priced hotels in the Don Muang area that he can stay in please?

10 years ago I stayed in the Airport Hotel for one night.
Walking distance is about 200 meters from the airport terminal, (across a footbridge outside the terminal and into the hotel lobby).
Stiff price but very convenient.

Have no idea if the hotel is still there though.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Just a question - which airport is your friend arriving at?

The Airport Hotel is still operating, and regardless of the huge drop in traffic, I believe their rates are still as steep.

The Rama Gardens is in the area, a nice place the last time I had any thing to do with it. Sorry, do not have contact numbers, or room rates, but should be on the Internet.

He's arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport, but only 1 flight a day to Udon Thani (Air Asia), which is 1 hour before he arrives.

Have checked the Airport Hotel and Rama Gardens (thanks for your replies). These hotels are a little more pricey than he was looking for. He's really looking for something a little more basic ie he's going to be knackered after the flight, and is just looking for somewhere to lay his head before continuing his journey at 7:30 the following morning.

Try the Golden Dragon , Ngamwongwan Rd almost opposite The Mall.

It's old and basic, but has a good coffee shop

Thanks klikster, it looks promising - nothing else has been suggested at a reasonable cost. :thumb:

Ok Big Boy.
If your friend doesn't want to pay the Airport Hotel price, (closest hotel to Don Muang airport), what about a 1000 Bt / night guest house in Sukhumvit Rd.? That's down town metropolis Bangkok.
You will have problems to find any cheaper BIG rooms than that.
PM me for details.

Has Don Muang shut down the sleeping facilities inside the terminal?

Quality Suites Bangkok Hotel behind the Laksi Plaza IT center is fairly convenient. Not sure about the prices, but would think it's definitely cheaper than the Airport Hotel.

A little past the airport, the Asia Airport Hotel is located in Zeer Rangsit, an IT shopper's haven. Think it's a little pricey, though.

There's also Louis Tavern Hotel, located along Ngam Wong Wan road and just before Laksi junction, but that's a little bit in the soi. The locals call this 'Soi KLM' as this is where the airport catering center used to be.

Thanks for the advice guys. My friend has now contacted somewhere on the recommendation of Norseman (he says thank you by the way). As always, a valuable source of information when needed.
