tourist visa
Quick question,
i have a 60 day tourist visa, if i leave the country during that time say to go to penang, what do i do on returning to thailand, as far as my visa.
also if i am out of the country does that extend my 60 day visa,
as you can see from my earlier post i will be here for 64 days.

Your visa will have a "must be utilised before" date on it somewhere. As long as you enter Thailand before that date, you'll be fine and get 60 days. Once you've got the entry stamp, that supercedes the visa.
If you exit the country, at any point, your visa will be invalidated - even if you've only been here for a week. However, you can get a re-entry permit at any Imm office for 1,900 Baht. This keeps the visa alive for when you come back in - as long as that "utilised date" hasn't passed. I believe you'll get another 60 days on re-entry, so your 64 day total will be covered.
Just remember that date that'll be stamped on the visa itself.

lomu,
You are assuming that this is a multiple entry visa, in which case your advice is correct; however if it is a single entry tourist visa what you say is not possible. However the good news for canadaeyes is that they can still get a 30 day permission to stay on re-entering Thailand without need of a visa, the so-called visa exemption stamp. From your original post(s) canadaeyes I am assuming that you indeed have a single entry tourist visa?

Having re-read your post lomu, I am not sure now, so a re-entry permit may be possible on a single entry visa, but I think only if the exit from Thailand is within the original permission to stay period, and not within any extension you have got (which i think is what canadaeyes may be talking about given the initial posts), although any extension would be the same or less duration than a simple exit and re-entry with a 30 day visa exemption stamp so it would be pretty pointless getting a re-entry permit for it even if you could!

Re: tourist visa
My opinion:

After day 34, if you exit Thailand and re-enter, you should be able to get a 30-day permission to stay.
Without a re-entry permit, any visa (or residency permit) expires upon exit from Thailand. Upon entry, you would get a 30 day "permission to stay" stamp.canadaaye wrote: i have a 60 day tourist visa, if i leave the country during that time say to go to penang, what do i do on returning to thailand, as far as my visa.
No, it has expired unless you have a re-entry permit. And even if you do have a re-entry permit (does single-entry actually mean what it says?), it doesn't extend a single entry visa..canadaaye wrote:also if i am out of the country does that extend my 60 day visa,
If you have not exited Thailand, on day 59 or thereabouts, you should be able to get an extension at immigration.canadaaye wrote:as you can see from my earlier post i will be here for 64 days.

Hello johnnyk, johnnyk wrote:Single-entry means you can come in one time on that visa. First entry is the one time.
To enter again without bother the double-entry or multiple-entry visa is best.
It's been so long since I was getting anything other than "O" extensions that I have lost track ..
.. is there now such an animal as a multiple entry tourist visa? And is so, how much does it add to the cost of the visa?
The multiple entry visas are usually Non O's rather than tourist. I doubt you'll get more than a double entry TV from a neighbouring country to Thailand. Hull, according to their application form, issue double/triple and if I remember correctly, quadruple TVs, but most people won't go for more than 3 entries as the visa itself is only valid for 6 months, so you might get the third entry in if you're staying in Thailand all the time (other then visa runs), but not the fourth.
The multi-entry Non O (which is undoubtedly the best option for staying long term in Thailand - other then getting annual extensions) can be obtained fairly easily from your home country. Again, neighbouring countries to here are not issuing them quite as easily as they were. Singaopore are reportedly doing them as long as you can show the equivalent of 400k Baht in a bank account (dosn't have to be in Thailand) and you're married to a Thai. It's 800K for the same visa on the basis of retirement (you're over 50). Penang have started issuing them again, but you need to qualify (through marriage or retirement). It's a bit vague as to any financial requirements that they impose.
I'm still fairly sure you can a re-entry permit for a single entry TV. Agree with johnnyk that the visa only gives one entry, but if like the OP, someone wants to go to Penang after a month here, they can re-enter on the original visa as long as they've got the re-entry permit first and the visa hasn't expired. I don't know how long you'll be stamped in on that re-entry, never having done it myself. Reckon the best bet is to check with Imm here before you travel. I'm not 100% sure about this.
BTW, I think a multi entry Non O costs 100 pounds now back in the UK, so it'll be 6500-7000 Baht in neighbouring countries. If I remember correctly, a double entry TV is twice the cost of single entry and so on for triple and anything else.

I've just searched this r-entry permit elsewhere.
It would appear that you certainly can get this for a single entry TV. Cost, 1,900 Baht. It'll work like this:
Arrive Thailand 14th Nov 2007 on single entry TV. Get 60 day stamp, so allowed in until approx 14th Jan 2008.
Depart Thailand 21st Nov 2007. Get re-entry permit first. Come back in 28th Nov 2007. You'll be stamped in until 14th Jan 2008.
So, you're permitted to stay stamp is not extended, but you don't lose the visa this way.
So, it probably won't be of much use to the OP anyway.
