Proposed changes to UK visa laws

why do we have to bribe illegals to go home???
just do what the italians did recently surprisingly (or not maybe?) it didnt get to much coverage in the uk tabloids

I don't see the 1000 Pounds bond to be too much of a problem to somebody looking to overstay in the UK as an illegal. From what I've read, they pay a lot more than that to get in to the UK on the Black Market.

For genuine cases, I don't really think it will be too much of a burden ie whenever I've brought family to the UK from Thailand, I've always had to pay for the whole trip - what's another 1000 Pounds?

Interesting that the right of appeal is to be scrapped or simplified. I assume, given the context of the article that they mean the right of appeal against refusal for a tourist visa but this is not clear as it is not explicitly stated.

Anyway, what I find interesting is that the right of such an appeal has only been possible in the last five years or so and what the article does not say is that the cost of applying for a tourist visa went up dramatically (from about £35 to a couple of hundred) when the appeal process was brought in - the idea being that the income from tourist visas should cover the cost of the appeals.

The only positive thing is that UK Gov. appears to be making some, if rather inane attempt to control it's borders, but the truth is same as always it will only affect the little guy, the 'economic migrants' will continue to flood in through their organised crime connections, they just have to vary their route abit

Here's my views, copied from Thailand-UK (for what its worth).

Jaime has made a good point, I missed the Govt's contradiction on that one.

Anyway, here's what I posted - I'm not impressed!

This is so wrong and to me is a sign that this Govt. is absolutely bereft of any ideas and is morally bankrupt. Its an admission of absolute failure of Govt. policy (or non-policy) of the last 20 years.

I also believe it misses the point entirely. What the average Brit wants is to see control over those that seek admission here illegally, a system that deals with asylum seekers quickly and fairly(getting rid of the never ending appeal process)and remove promptly, those that have failed or commit criminal offences of a sufficiently serious nature. Some control over europeans would have helped as well, but thats a bit late now.

Instead, we are now having proposed on our behalf a system that penalises the average good guy Brit - whatever their background/ethnicity - financially and by time constraints, simply because the Govt. can't do its job properly.

I bet there will be a lot of people happy to receive a small sum to act as "sponsors" for visas, to have to forfiet 1k to enter the UK is a lot less than some are prepared to pay to get here illegally at the moment. Seems like a green light to me. If this ever sees the light of day, it will be interesting to see how the number of visa applicants increases compared to now.

And to pay people 4k to leave - can I have that, please? I'll go.
