I'm coming to Hua Hin for the thrid time in nine months (guess whose seriously considering "retiring" there) from Sept 18-30th
Generally have played the 'tourist' the last two times. Unfortunately that meant little interaction with the expats there. You don't war Tshirts <grin> so thought I would make a serious effort to meet up with some people who live there permanently.
Appreciate any advice in that regard.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

As you can see from the underwhelming response to your posting, the ex-pats here can be a pretty insular lot. Not many conspiratorial smiles around.
They don't wear T-shirts, but next time you see a pot belly (it's too hot to exercise) on a scooter with a Thai lady riding pillion, the chances are you've spotted one. It could even be me.

A Thai lady riding pillion? Sonds vaguely erotic.
I figured they didn't want another Yank in the neighborhood. But its OK I have a talent for finding my way arounf -- lookfor thetll guy with a long gray pony tailand a puzzled look

Not sure about the insular bit. Most, but not all of us, have left our countries behind, so the idea of being insular is a non-starter
I'm sure there was supposed to be some sarcasm in your post.
As far as meeting other ex-pats is concerned, the best way is to mix in and visit the more frequented bars that cater to them.
You could also join in the now regular "Saturday Strolls" around town as has been posted on this site many times.
You can take a horse to water etc.
I'm not having a go, but ex-pat life is what you make it. If you don't get out and about, you can't expect it to come to you.
Hope that makes sense.

Generally agree with lomuamart, but to be a little more helpful here is a list of some of the bars regularly frequented by the expats - personally I tend to go to Johnnie Walkers because of the pool table, and if you are a pool player Wednesday nights is the pool league night when you will find many expats around (check out this website http://www.huahinpool.multiservers.com/ for more info). Other regular expat bars are Jungle Juice, Bernies, Billy's Bar, London Bar and Road Hole, but to be honest you will find expats all over the place - it just depends on your preferred activities. If you are a golfer there is a golf society (check out the monthly free publication the Observer - also at http://www.observergroup.net/ which has info on this) where you would also meet many of the expats. Hope that gives you a few pointers, and obviously keep checking this board for anything else that may be going on, and enjoy your stay when you get here.

Adding to Wanderlust's list: P&P Bar and U-Turn usually have a good crowd of expats.
