Villa is useful store to by some things that oyu miss, every now and then. We shop ther ein BKK maybe once a month.

Migrant, the prices I belvie are certainly not in the region of US goods (I think). Certainly they are many times the price of UK goods and I thought the US cheaper that UK.

Poor examples, but a pack of 24 Weetabix (although the Villa ones are made in China not UK). Cost about Pounds 2.70

Perhaps someone will post the UK cost.

The biggest problems I find in Villa Sukhumvit are:-

Goods past sell by date
Badly Damaged Goods
Staff open packets to try a little, then seal with sticky tape (this you sometimes only find out when you get home). Have actually returned goods a few times, and the Manager simply exchanged them and siad sometimes the staff like to try.

Check very carefully all goods from Villa, it can prove a very expensive disappointment.

However, you can find some really good stuff there. And it does make for an occassional treat

You are correct :thumb:

In many cases prices were higher than the standard shops here, but were comperable to the high end meat/fish shops.

BTW I should have added that I was mainly checking meats, seafood, vegie type items. I can eat Thai most all week, but still miss a good chunk of beef/salmon.

Villa is still pricey on a number of things but is improving .

Dave and Mo still beat them on value / quality with most of their range of products .

I am in Bangkok on a regular basis and always pick up the following for a number of friends .

Walkers crisps 35b for two packets

Legs of lamb 40 -50 % cheaper than hua hin

Branston pickle 145b for 310g jar

pate, luxury cheese and olives unavailable here .

Pataks curry products (dear but oh so worth it)

wine on some of the 2 for one deals can be a bargain but Hans & Lek beat them on price most of the time and service all of the time .

Still cant find Lucozade anywhere however

These are usually sold in 3 kg bags. How much do you pay for them in Bangers?

6-900 baht per leg that feeds 6- 8 greedy ,half cut ,farangs with left overs on the last 3 occasions .Enough to feed 4 the next day on the last one .

I do however recall paying 2000 for the same a couple of years ago at the same villa outlet corner of soi 33/1 .They have either broken the ticket machine or found another source .

Our regular sunday chef assures me that she cannot get a leg in Hua hin for Bangkok prices .All other roasting joints she buys here .

Just had a fantastic gammon steak that she dropped off earlier from a Hua hin supplier with pineapple and slightly spiced plum tomatoes .

The gammon ,once again, was the best I have come across in my life .

Are you going to wave this gammon infront of our face and eat it all to yourself or let us know who supplies this mighty fine swine?

A friend of mine just bought a leg for 1,040 Baht at Mr. Burger and I think they are about the same price in Macro. There will be a Macro opening in Pranburi next month.

prices

Post by pfotoguy369 »

I shopped at the new Villa in Pattaya just before moving and yes very true prices are higher than in your native country. But then again we aren't in our native country.

Usually when I go back to America I take 2 suitcases. 1 about 2/3 full and one empty.

Then I bring back 70 lbs of food items with me I can't seem to get here.

Recently I had a real hankering for some Ham and Lima beans.

I finally found them at Villa. Yes they were expensive but not as expensive as a trip back to the US.

Hopefully they will build one here.

Sometimes you just get a taste for something and it wont go away.

Life is short, pay the extra 10 baht and enjoy.

Best beans I've had in 2 years

If you really didn't want to know the answer, why the hell did you ask me the question!!!

Hello There Y'all

I have re itterate my point that Villa have so many international stuff but seem to lack of German Groceries Which I'm still today really I'm in discontend with. They could import my favorite potatoe crisps/chips from Germany which would make mie really happy.
But what they lack in German stuff they make it up with loads of Japanese Groceries which @ the end of the day balances it all out.

The Pataks stuff looks good. However, I can't understand why people over here just don't "DIY". The spices are "easy" to find, then you make your own version.
Pataks, although very good, are a bad second to doing it yourself. It might take all of 5 minutes to pound the spices up, maybe a bit of "blood, sweat and tears", but most of us have all the time in the world.

Now you have put me in a position sir .

How many beers will it cost me to find out where I can get a good range of Indian spices in Hua Hin ? Never had a problem finding them in southern thailand .Since moving here I first relied on a shop in Bangkok that has now ceased to exist ,followed by Mrs Patak .

My foremothers and fathers lived in India and Burma through the days of the raj up until the end of wwII, so curry is more common in our diet than a bacon sandwich .Would love to find enough spices to DIM .

 :thumb:

Try "All in Hua Hin".
Sometimes they've got decent stuff. It should be easy here, but you've gotta shop around. After all, the spice islands aren't a million miles away

All In Hua Hin's good they do a lovely huge breakfast. Also worth checking out Cottage Kitchen as Crazy88 mentions there's falang food at Cottage Kitchen. Pretty good in my experience. They've got a website (I think it's new, no-one mentioned it until recently) at www.ckthai.com if that helps anyone.
