Rider,
Although you may well be right about the PPP, I don't recall reading anything about their proposed policies including any tightening of the visa and immigration rules, and to be honest I think they will have much higher priorities to deal with, such as maintaining any coalition they manage to put together. I also think that the tourist numbers will probably have taken a big dip in 2007 so there may be pressure on any government to avoid upsetting foreigners, whether tourists or residents, and if the PPP do form the government they are likely to reverse some of the legislation that made it harder for foreigners to do business here. Tourism accounts for about 5% of the GDP here so it is not insignificant, and that does not include any revenue from long stayers or the black economy (e,g. prostitution).

I agree wanderlust.
I think that PPP not getting a full majority was a good outcome from the election and things can only get better for Thailand and foreigners in general.
Lets face it Thailand is still a wanderful place to be whether you are a visitor or a resident.

Latest from the beeb:
The EC is investigating a number of alleged breaches of the election regulations by candidates, and says it expects to disqualify at least 24 successful candidates.
now lets guess how many of the 24 are PPP???
