Retirement visa renewal

Post by Huahinian »

I did my 90 day reporting this morning and witnessed something that serves as reminder to all.

A Canadian was trying to renew his retirement visa but his passport was due to expire before the new visa would. He was told to renew his passport and then renew his visa. He was offered a 7 day extension on his existing visa to allow him to do this. He became very abusive and aggressive - result was a 30 day stamp.

It is worth remembering that passports must be valid to a date beyond the visa expiry being applied for.

Becoming very abusive and aggressive gets you nowhere in this country. It might work back home, but can result in devastating problems for the person who loses their rag. Thai's culture is to smile on the outside with an anger inside. Smiling and pleading works - aggression no no no!

Easy to forget that expiry date on your passport, I suppose.
It's also worth remembering that you need 6 months validity on it to get a visa, even a Tourist one which is only valid for 60 days.
